Mr. Lewis Dead. —Mr. E. E
Lewis died yesterday morning at
S o’clock at his home in Atlanta
ot Typhoid fever He has only been
sick a week and his death was un
expected. Ho is the father of Mrs
Dr. J . A. Wills, of this city. The

Williamson—Hendricks —Tues

son and Miss Fannie Hendricks

A “Slide” of its Own.—The
“Beaver Slide”is a place just back
of the cemetery,East of town where
it is said the gamblers both white
and black, meet at n'ght and play
cards. There are two or three
places where the ground is worn
perfectly smooth, hence the name
“Beaver Slide” Saturday night
there was a great deal of noise,
cursing, etc., which greatly dis
turbed the citizens in the Eastern
part of the town. Marshal Atkins
will undertake to stop this busines

Senior entertainment which was to
have been given in the college par
lor on last Saturday was postponed
on account of the Synod, and a
circus and some various counter
attraction This does not mean
that the plan was given out, on
the contrary more time has devel
oped new plans and we promise
a genuine entertainment to all who
attend. The program wi 1 include
recitations, music aid original
rhymes, the subject ot which is
the almighty dollar. The last
alone will be worth the admission

another attempt assault made by
a negro upon a white girl. The
victim was Miss Mary Shepherd,
of Cincinnati!, who is here on a
visit with James Walters and
