MRS-VANSCHAARK
WAS VERY SLY IN GETTING
LETTERS
SEANCE WITH HER JACK
Helped Her To Get Contents
Os His Pockees.
Chicago. Nov 24 — Mrs. John
Van Schaaek. of $65,000 judgment i
fame hna permitted the publica
tion of several letters which cut
a large figure in her recent suit
against her father-in-law.
Perhaps the most interesting
letters are two that passed between
the estranged husband and’ wife.
Van Schaaok announced in his
letter that he decided to abandon
his wife in order to cling to his
father.
In answer to this is a tearful
letter from hie wife asking hir
“Jack dearest” to come back to
her. Sheotfe.ed f. rgiveneas.
Papa Van Schaack had an eco
nomical stiain' *hi ! e writ ng one
of the letters addressed to his son
John. Pt discussed the possibility
of John s getting a divorce and
advised him to see if it wouldn't
cost lees in Nev Jersey (than in
New York. There is another let
ter to John Van Schaack that has
no signature.
WHY IT WASN'T SIGNED.
Inclosed with it was a card
bearing these words: “You know
who this letter is from, and so I
do not date or sign .”
This letter is filled with criti
cism of Mrs Van Schaack. It al
leges she was turned out of the
Hyde Park Hotel. It repeats some
gossip about her caieer iu New Or
leans .
In a letter signed “P<pa,” the
father speaks of Mrs Van Schaack
the brilliant presiding genius of so
many Bohemian suppers as a
“drag,” and continues “Wh n
has she saved your money or
nelped you to get a position? 1
advise you most tincere y t > leave
the woman and get a divorce. ’
EMPLOYED STRATEGY.
Mr. Van Sclaack came into
posession of the le'ters through
rtrategy. After leaving his wi : e
“Jack. Dear,” called on her once
for the sake of old times.
In withdrawing his handkerchief
from an inner pocket the
wire pulled out. They dropped
on a sofa. Mrs. Van Schraak deft
ly dropped a piilow upon the lost |
tetters. When her husband left '
she promptly secured the missives
and turned them over to her at
torney.

well recommended by the press
and public the “Outcast of a
Great Citv” ie a play of intense
and thrilling interest brim full of
genuine comedy. Beautiful and
talented singers e’egaut and pict
uresque dancers. It is a pathetic
story ot a wife’s struggles in the
great metropolis. The scene of
the Brooklyn Bridge at noon light
with Brooklyn in the distance, in
a glittering blaze of electric lights,
Th« new York <Pck wilh a ship at
the dedk, and the New York Cen

at the rate of a mile a minute,
The following is from the Atlanta
Journal of Nov. 16 th.
The Daniel Kelly company
drew one of the larg -st audiences
ever aeaemhled in the Columbia
to that theatre lat-t n'glil. Every
fl >or wire packed t • its utmost
capacity and many’ jjwere turned
away unable to obtain and
mission.
Although this is Dan’l Kelly’s
first virit here and his excellent
character work .vas much enjoyed
Miss El'a Shield is a dainty lit
tle s jubrette, and her d<n ling ai.d
singing was one of the feature s
<.f the entertainment.
Little Desalles Shield as little
Tim the Waif, was very clever.
She has one of the sweetest voices
ever heard o>i our loci! stage.
The Kelly company is one of
the best that has been s- en here
