The Would-Be Bride Was De
tained In Maou.n.
Albany, Ga., Dec. 10. —Charles
C. Ericksen, an < watch
maker, came to Albany about a
year ago and entered the j- wdry
es’ablishment of Phil Harris
where he is still employed. He
was rather quiet and re erved.
hut impressed those with whom
he was thrown in contact very
favorably. He was looked up >n
as a single man. and several diys
ago he announced that he would
b* married here today to Miss
OsciLa Chew, of Garrett, Ind.
who would arrive in Albany yes
terday afternoon.
He arranged his apartments at
the Albany inn for the reception
of hie b'ide, a..d the ceremony
was to have occurred in St. Paul’s
church this afternoon, so in after
the arrival of the Central train
from Atlanta. The marriage li
cense was procured au 1 Rev. H.
Baldwin dean e igaged to perform
the ceremony. But obstacles un
looked for suddenly arose.
The telegrams were rereiv< d
this morning by the suthoiitiess
here from Garrett. Lid. one from
the Marshal of that town, and the
other from W. H. Chew father of
the prospective bride. These mes
sages demanded that the marriage
not be allowed to take place and
directed the arrest of the princi
pals if necessary. They further
stated that Erickson had a lawful
wife already and had kept that
fact concealed from Miss Chew.
Erickson was notified by the:
officers that the marridge could
not occur and he quietly acquies
ced. Miss Chew did not
as was expected this afternoon
and it is conj ctured by some that
Erickson telephoned or telegraph
ed her in time to have her to stop
off somewhere between At’anta
and A bany until he can go to her
He declares that she will a"rive
tonight or tomorrow probably
having missed connection. He
stated that he once had a wife hut
has secured a divorce from her.
There is an astonishingly lively
interest in the affairt in Albany, >
and the story is the talk of the I
town. Mi s Chow’s Father has]
telegraphed that he is on’ his way
to Albany, to see his daughter is
protected. She may arrive on
the Central train at midnight and
as soon as her father can reach
Albany. Erickson will be cilied
toprove Hat he has been legally
separated from h's first wife.
HE WAS DETAINED IN MAC IN.

Oscilla Chew was de'ained here
yesterday by Detective Patterson
upon authcrity of a telegram le
queeting that she be prevented '
from continuing her journey to 1

married tomorrow.
She is from Indianapolis, and it
appears she had run away from I
