Our last Gra.l Jury recom

this committee Lire eatiul power

As o citizen an tax payeér I
say, we heed a jail, and; need it
now, but I say, andwery: citizen

respectfully ask thi: committee

necessary expense of uying land
for jail purposes, wha there is
a deed of record in he clerk’s
oftice saying that the oanty has
already acquired land for court
house and jail purposc.
The ordinary has pio a nice
wire fence “around U ypublic
square and any one ¢ readily
see tnat therd is suiiicant land

Again I hear that tlis (:om-1j
mittee is considering buying
land and building in adVion to
the jail and sheriff’s resdence,
a lot and barn, for the; heriff,
that Le may have a lot and lmm‘

Now I wish to say, itgs not
the county’s business to firnish ‘
this, nor is it the sheriff’s, tut it

We are poor and have burias

a nuvmber of pur promitient
citizens met in the Citizens Banlk,
for the purpose of devising some
plan to raise a sufficient wmonnt
of money to uniform our frst

club. , Heretgfore our boys have
been hampered, badly, on ac
count of not having means. And
again there has not been much
system about the team. .
Cashier Geo. F. Armstrecng
called .the meeting to order, and
explained its object in a few
pointed remarks, after which. he
was made permanent Chairman.
T. R. Knight was made manager
of the team and Will Avmstrong
Secretary and Treasurer. So
now we can count oh base ball
being run rightin our towy.
But, itis going to take money
to do this. Many of thosa who
}were present at this meeting
contributed (liberally, right on

A Real Burglar Proof Safe., |
A curious modern invention is to
be seen by a favored few in the
Bank of England. If is claimed to
be an #bsolutely burglar proof safe,
because at night it is lowered into a
subvault of heavy maconry and con
crete. 3 ; ;
When the safe reaches the bottom:
of the vault it is fastened down
by massive steel lugs, operated by a
triple time lock. ' Until thiese lugs
are released automatically at a fixed
time no human agency can gise tlie
safe. As for breaking'through the
subvault and walls of stone and
conerete ten feet thick, even with
dynamite—well, the butglar must
ghake his }ead sorrowfully and ad
mit that he has met his Waterlco in
that safe.~——Boston Fost. :
