Mer Experience With Her
Dru nkea Husbans.
™ The following is the history of
a young woman’s mdrried. life.
She once resided in this town
far a short while with - her ‘hus
band. Mr. and Mis. J.T. R
Rowland befriended her while
here. It seems that her husband
treated her so crually, that the
young woman’s father was writ
ten to to come after héf and take
her back home.’ We trust that
the histery of thisyéung woman’s
married life will be a warning to
ell young girls whom may chance
to read it. Girls, don’t marry 2
man unless you know something
about him; Mrs. Rowlrnd re
ceived th.i?. letter, and it was
sent to us for dublieation. While
we -haven’t -the space to gpare
for this class of matter, yet we
have made room for it, with the
hope that some young girl might
be benefited by this young wo
man’s sad experience.
'MY MARRIED . LIFE.
* “On Jnly stb, A. D 1906, I left
my father’s house, nesr Jasper,
Fla., to walk with hini of whom I
knew so Jittle about, but as I
was married to him I did intend
to show to him that "I was going
to be true to my words.. So we
walked and walked till we came
to Valdosta, thers he put me in
the house with a strange family
and never could'l get a good and
kind word from him. -
He was continously under the
influence of whiskey. Butl did
21l I could to make it pleasant
for him, but he didn’t seem to
care how I was treated. We
stayed there a §month or more,
till one day he came home drunk
and forced me to leave there.
And I dida’t say anything to him
although it lopked dark and
gloomy for me. . .
. We walked on*%and on, nos
knowing where I would get food
or bed, spieties would stay by |
the roadside and somefimes at
some one’s house. Andlwent,
wondering if this would always
be my fate. My feet were 50 sore
and bruised that I could hardly
walk, and went hungry day after
day, till at last we came te 2
place called. Willacoochee, there
we stayed a couple of weeks and
then for the first time he took
me on the train to Douglas.
. 'We siayßd there a couple of
months or more, but never could
I get him .to spegk kind tp me.
- He was always quarreling with
me and refused to ever let me go
back home to see any of my peo
ple, and yet;%,obeyed‘ him as I
did my pareuts. He continued
to drink and nothing T could do
or say would stop him, till at
last we less Douglas, and this
time also left on the train, but it
was just luck that it happened so
shen he took me:to Cochran, and
it was there that the . privilage of
writing back to mother was tak
en from me, and oh, youall can
never understand how I felt up
there amongst strangers and not
¢ven a word frem mother or sis
ter tocomfort me, and some
times I felt as if mysheart would
break, and the scent of whiskey
always on his breath. I tell you
whiskey, can break any poor
heart for'no one knows how much
1 suffered from it.- When" at'
last I was forced to leave there
and walk to Empire, tired and
~worn out when Figot there, tlren.
we went on the tfain to Desiter,
where we stayed :three months
and it was there he forced me to'
leave the liftle town about nine

well and we spent the rest of
the night at his house, and &:
pext morning we came on
train to Lumber City, He tried
to get work there but failed, and
then I had to walk to Hazlehurst.
I was then coming to my de=
liverance, but I knew it not I
was worn and give out when 1
reached the eback of Mr, -Row
land’s fleld on Surday wmorning,
and it was there at his house that
we stayed one menth or more,
and while staying there he drove
me off from the house and then
he overtaken me and forced me
to come back with him.
Oh, how I praise ‘the Hazle
hurst people, 1 never will forget
them while I live for they helped
me in my troubles and saved me
from being layed away & mur
dered girl. Ny
I will never forget that memo
vable evening when my clothes
were being sut off of me¢ and my
life threatened when the good
people of Hazlehurst came to my
rescue and did protect me tilmy
father came, 1 never met with
any good and kind hearted peo
ple till I came to the city of Ha
zlehurst, and as long as life last
1 will think of them and my Sav
jor as being my deliverer., :
‘lt makes me think about the
the song I used to sing about
“Jeliverance will come’’ and de
liverance did come tome, I
could tell-no.one my feeling when
father came to me. I felt like a
great burden was lifted off of me,
I give warning against whiskay
to every young girl, and if they
have a good home they certainly
ought to dppreciate it.
lam at home now and well
gatisfied, and Ido give the good
people up there the praise of fny
being at home, ‘for otherwise I
would likely have been in the
long sleep of death.
I have written this for you, my
truest friends. with best regards
and good will to you all through
