The steamship America ha* arrived with one
week's later intelligence from Europe.
At Liverpool, Co'tou was in less demand, but
prices were firmly supported, and middling quali- '
ties a shade dearer. Fair Uplands were quoted
at sd, Mobile sid, and Orleans s id, Middling
Orleans 4ld, Mobile 4 13-lGd, Uplands 4J. The
sales of week were 40,000 bales, speculators
taking 7,000 and exporters 5,000 bales. Stock
381,210 American, against a total last year of
486,000 of which 306,000 were American.—
Brown, Shipley & Co.'s Circular quotes Fair
Mobile as advanced *d, and other descriptions un- j
changed. The market closed less animated. ,

Cotton. —The market is firmer at yesterday's
prices. The sales to-day reach 1100 bales at
prices ranging from 7 to 8i cents.

Great Britain.—The Niagara arrived at Liv
erpool, on the 18th ult. Dr. Newman, has been
appointed President of the new Roman Catholic
University in Ireland. American Ships had ar
rived from the Eastern Archipelago, bringing
papers filled with accounts of the honors paid to 1
Kossuth. Accounts have been received of the
death of the King of Hanover. Sir E. Bulwer
I s about to return to Washington. The accounts
f om Australia, represent the yield of gold as
\mmense.
France is q liet, and the Funds are advancing.
The Ministry had been removed in consequence
of their incoiniietency and a new one is forming,
of which Drouy de Lhuys and Baroche are to be
members. A tremendous excitement was caused ,
in the Chamber of Deputies by a proposition hav- j
ing been made to appoint an armed force to pro
tect the Assembly. It was. however, voted 1
down by a large majority. Louis Napoleons :

nad ever been before. i

firm, and two thousand five hundred bales were
