Editor News: The Radicals have spread
their canvaes to the breeze, and the name
of Bullock is written upon its folds in let
ters large and unmistakable. He is there
fore the representative of their party. Yan
keedom and niggerdom have united in wed
lock, and the first-born is a bullock. Let
him be sacrificed.
The nomination of Judge Reese by the
Executive Committee at Macon has met
with a considerable amount, of censure
here. In the first place it is thought by
many that so important a matter as the
Domination of a candidate for Governor
properly belongs to a convention of the
people of Georgia. Again, the nominee
having been a member of the convention
that attempted to put the State out of the
Union, makes him ineligible to office, and
therefore it is inexpedient to run a man
who, if elected, could not serve. Besides,
, there are many voters who would be ex
ceedingly loath to support any candidate
who, in the event of election, would be
rejected by Congress
The papers oi this evening contain a card
from Judge Irwin, in which lie concludes,
In deference to the solicitations of many
friends from every quarter of the State, to
eater the Gubernatorial lists. The Judge
is a man of letters, and, so far as 1 am able
to see, occupies a sort of intermediate posi
ween the antipodal parties. Should
there be no Democratic contestant, the
changes are that Irwin would beat Bullock.
. The question now agitating the Demo
cratic inind in this section is whether or not
"•itbe right tluit we should run anybody for
Governor or any other position. Suppose
we elect the man of our choice, by what
authority was the election called V evident
ly by the Sherman bill. Hence, if we enter
upon the contest at all, it is equivalent to
acknowledging that Jenkins might justly
have been removed by Meade; that the act
of Congress known as the Sherman bill is
effective; that we yield the point at issue.
Still it may be a matter worth our con
sideration to reflect “if Bullock and his
carpet-baggers get possession* of Georgia,”
as Farrow says, “the State is ruined.”—
The fact is, we are in the fix of a drowning
man who catches at straws. Occasionally
oue is raised by an accidental hold upon
some spar of the shattered ship. That spar
is Irwin. People of Georgia in the exer
cise of the promptings of its great heart,
could settle this matter in a very short
time. It would not take Georgia long to
make Gordon her Governor. But policy,
my friend ; we must use a little of that, just
this one time—and when we get on top,
then do as we like. Reasoning from the
same premises, l should not be surprised to
see the Democracy of the Seventh District
support Cole for Congress. Anybody to
beat Markham—the Radical. Cole says he
wants to show the people that a man can
be for the Union without making himself a
nigger.
There is evidence that a goodly number
of those who have hitherto been in full,
fellowship with Radicalism hereabouts,
when the contest narrows down, as it has,
between white or black domination, are on
the qui vice to fall in with our party. Let
Bullock and his man Farrow hoe their row
as best they can; but I tell you, Mr. Editor,
that we are going to whip this fight—or
the man at least. Let 11s not fight the
Constitution. That matter may very well
be left to the Courts. Let us rather put
our strength on the man who is to admin
ister the government. It the Sherman
bill is unconstitutional, then the whole
fabric falls to the ground and Jenkins is
still Georgia’s Governor. If the Sherman
bill is constitutional, under a decision of
the Supreme Court, then we have the con
solation of having elected a man—a white
man—a son of Georgia and a gentleman—
one who has an idea beyond an express
package —to see after the interest of our
people. ,
General Gordon delivered a very excel
lent address this day before the Hibernian
Society of Atlanta. He paid an eloquent
tribute to Pat. Cleburne and Rev. Father
Ryan—the dead that died for freedom, and
the living that live for it. Scalpel.
The Springfield, Mass., Republican is
thought not to like Wade. It says :
Mr. Wade we should like to see disposed
of on the following terms : As the conven
tion will meet before he has been long in
the chair as acting President, pnd before he
has had a fair opportunity to display him
self, he shall not receive the nomination ;
but’if, on the fourth of March subsequent,
when he turns over the Government to Gen
eral Grant, he can find a hundred Republi
cans in the country who will say that they
want anything more of him, he shall have
the next nomination to the Presidency, the
rights of all other men to the contrary not
withstanding.
Dr. Howe, of Boston, who is authority on
Cretan matters, writes that the insurrection
is not at an end ; that the war is suspended
only because the Turkish soldiers no longer
venture out of the fortresses upon the coast
into the interior, and that as soon as they
do the Cretans will again assail them. He
also says that the “bloody instructions” to
starve the whole Christian population of
the island by destroying all vegetation, are
returning “to plague the inventors; and
the Turkish garrisons are suffering from
scurvy and like disorders. Their only sup
ply of fresh provisions is from Asia Minor
and Egypt. It is a disgrace to the Christian
Governments of Europe that they have not
interfered long before now to put a stop to
the atrocities of the fanatical Turks.

Hurley’s Sarsaparilla.
Os all the medicines that have been discovered dur
ing the present age for the “ thousand ills that flesh is
heir to,” none equal this wonderfu preparation. Only
ten years havo elapsed since the discoverer (who spent
a decade in studying experiments, and prefecting It)
first introduced it to the public, and it is already re
cognized by the most eminent physicians in all parts
of tbc country, to be the most surprising and effective
remedy for certain diseases of which they liuve any
knowledge.
All other Compounds or Syrups of this root have
hitherto tailed to command the sanction of the Facul

contain noxious ingredients, which neutralize the good
effects of the Sarsaparilla, and oftentimes Injure the
