CONS ITIHJTKVNA LIST.
WEDNESBA V MORNING, APlilL 7,1868
(Correspondence of the World.
North Carolina.
Raleigh, March 17.
I wish to let you know how the North
Carolina Congo Convention adjourned.
A Mr. Littlefield took the chair and gave
out “ Old John Brown lies a mouldering in
the ground,” two lines at a time, and the
whole congregation sang it after him.—
Then the whole concern advanced to the
.chair, singing and dancing and shouting.—
They rang the fire bells while the constitu
tion was being signed, till half the citizens
turned out, supposslng the town was on
fire, and broke up in an orgie impossible to
describe.
Among the features of the proposed con
stitution are the following:
That whites and negroes shall be forced
to attend the same school.
That whites and negroes shall be drilled
together in the militia—probably whites
officered by blacks.
That white children are to be aprenticed
to negroes.
That marriages between whites and
blacks arc to be legal.
The worst criminals are being pardoned
out of the penitentiaries, that they vote the
Radical ticket.
Accidentally taking up Fank Leslie’s pa
per the other day, my eye fell on the fol
lowing sentence :
“ The whites in tire South being as com
pared to negroes, numerically two to one,
if they are ruled by t lie latter, why —they
deserve to be. Is there a sane man in the
United Stales who does not know that nine
out of ten of the white men of the South
cannot volt at all? And those the intelli
gent, the upright, the honor idle and the
true. While almost as a rule those who
can, or rather th'-se v. ho do, v to, ire the
base aud the perjured.
Another thing The Radicals pause at no
measure which will insure their success and
our ruin. For instance, the negro Harris,
member for this county, was nominated for
Congress and would unquestionably have
been elected, but lie received orders irom
Washington, accompanied with a thousand
dollar bill , to decline the nomination, which
he did. There is nothing Radicals drearl so
much as to see negroes sent to Congress.—
Even the saints in Boston could not. stand
that.
Now. Mr. Editor, I have given you a few
facts that I hope and trust you will con
dense somehow into your news items, and
let the good people of the North know what
we of the South have to bear. We have
done all that we could to show that we ac
cept our situation as the legitimate result
of the war, more than a magnanimous oi"
even just conqueror would ask.
Veritas.
The Real Radical Doctrine.
There is no election now going in Mas
sachusetts, and the Radical sentiment crops
out there. The Springfield Union, a straight
Radical paper, of March 27th, says of the
Fenians:
“ The era ot petty nationalities has pass
ed by. The idea of dividing nat ions up into
tribes and clans, each with its distinct laws,
and its separate and diverse interestbe
longs to a past age of barbarism. The civili
zation of the 10th century is breaking down
these watts of partition and drawing peoples
together on a broader scale of nationality.
To maintain two separate nationalities
under one government is impracticable, aud
so long as it is attempted will prove a fruit
ful source of discontent, uneasiness and
nutual contention. Absorption is the true
theory. Let the whole people of Ireland be
taken up into the British nation, let all distinc
tions of nation and race be forgotten, let
the same laws and the same rights and
privileges be extended over the whole
realm, and soon the wrongs of Ireland will
be forgotten, for they will cease to exist. —
This is the policy of Russia. Though Poland
has long ago lost all semblance of freedom,
her factious oligarchy has stood in the way
of progress, in the wav.of freedom, in the
way of peace. These reforms which the
Czar has inaugurated for the emancipation
and elevation of the serfs have found their
bitterest and most unmanageable opponents
in the Polish nobility. And though there
is a charm and a romance around some of
those old heroic Polish names, that we part
from with regret, we have no doubt humani
ty will be the gainer by this act of the
Czar.”
Here is the unadulterated Radical doc
trine—centralization of power—absorp
tion” of State governments —of Ireland,
Poland, Hungary, into despotic arms—
freedom crushed out—tyrannical govern
ment established. This is really and practi
cally the Radical plan. —Hartford Times.
They Acknowledge it a Cheat. —The
evidence daily accumulates that the mem
bers of the menagerie themselves know and
acknowledge that the so-called “relict”
measures are a cheat aud a humbug.
Before leaving Atlauta N. P. Hotchkiss,
chairman of the Relief Committee, and W.
11. Whitehead, of Butts, another “ cat’s
paw ” for Governor Brown in the same
dirty work, filed their petitions in bank
ruptcy.
These men thus acknowledge that they
will not trust their own work, and their
measures were merely intended to deceive
the people and win votes for negro suf
frage.— Rome Courier.
T Whoa Januaut.—The little horse, “ Whoa
January,” which all onr little hoys and girls
Vividly remember, was recently sold at auction
iu an obscure town in Texas. He brought
(350, aud had been levied on, together with the
