■HoW Um.T.OCR IS ENCOURAGED TO RAID
os the Pitbt.io Puhsk.—We flint the fol
lowing in the Atlanta Intelligencer of
Wednesday:
“Western and Atlantic R. R., October
IS, 1869.—The undersigned, a portion of
the Georgia Delegation, returning from the
Commercial Convention, just adjourned at
Louisville, Ky., hereby tender to His Ex
cellency Governor Bullock our hearty
thanks for a special train to Louisville and
back to Georgia.
“The hospitality of the Governor is
worthy the great State of Georgia, and,
considering our labors and success, we feel
that it it has not been unworthy or im
properly bestowed:
A. D. Nunn ally, J. T. Coopbr,
M. A. Hardin, M. Smith,
V. A. Gaskill, D. Mayer,
W. O. Bibb, R. L. Mott,
J. H. Newton, J. J. McKendree,
Otis Jones, C. Howell,
J. R. Compton, D. P. Hill.
J. G. Yeizer, Jas. Noble, Sr.,
Jas. Boynton, John A. Bowie.”
“ Considering our labors and success” is
as frosty a piece of impertinence as we
have ever seen attempted. The records of
the convention show neither labor nor suc
cess upon the part of the signers of that
card, without Varney Gaskill making an
assof himself to the delight of the convention
may be so considered. A free train and free
victuals was a hospitality upon the part of
a State dishonored by scalawags and plun
dered by carpet-baggers, but the poor bur
dened people who pay for the hospitality
do not feel honored or benefltted by its
display. —Columbus Sun.
Pompey Haines, charged with the mur
der of Col. R. W. Flournoy, in June .last,
was arraigned for trial on Friday last. L.
A. Hall, Esq., of Irwinton, appeared as hi.s
counsel, and asked for a continuance of the
case, ou the ground of the recent finding of
the bill by the grand jury, the excited state
of the public mind, the absence of his asso
ciate counsel (his copartner at law, we pre
sume), and liis having beeu so recently em
ployed to defend the case. All of which
was overruled by the court, Judge Gibson
paying the county a merited compliment
for the determination manifested on the
part of the citizens to render the accused
even-handed justice.
The piisoner having pleaded “Not
guilty,” the court proceeded to the empan
nelling of a jury, and after having exhaust
ed two arrays—one of forty-eight amt the
other of twenty-four—without obtaining
half the requisite number, the case was con
tinued until next term of the court.

Death of Judge N. G. Foster.— We re
gret to announce the death of this gentle
pian. He died at Madison, for long years
his residence, on the 19th instant, in the
60th year of his age. During a long and
well spent life, he had filled many offices in
this State, in the Legislature and upon the
Bench, and also served with distinction
during the Florida war as the captain of
one of the volunteer companies, attached
to the famed “ Cooper’s Battalion ” which
suffered so much, and which came out of
that war with so much credit.
[Atlanta Intelligencer.
Troops fob Florida.— A detachment of
troops, consisting of one officer gnd twenty
men, left here on Wednesday night for Ma
riana, Jackson county, Fla., via Fort
Gaines and Nell’s Landing. The deputy
collector at Mariana has been threatened
and impeded in the performance of his duty
by lawless persons, and this detachment
goes down for his protection. This Is in
accordance with a dispatch published yes
terday morning, stating that Gen. Sherman
had advised Gen. Terry to send troops to
Florida. —Atlanta Era, 22 d.
Dead.— Judge Garry Grice died at the
residence of his son, Q. C. Grice, in Payette
county, on the 19th inst. Mr. Grice was
probably the oldest man In the county, and
had been a man of wonderful physical
vigor, as well as remarkable talent. He
has occupied many positions of trust both
in Georgia and in his native State, North
Carolina. He was an honest, upright man,
and died respected by all who knew him.

Syphilis.
To Dr. Thos. A. Hurley:
Sib : I deem it 311 act of justice to you to state that
in the month ot February last I bad a severe attack
of inflammatory rheumatism, which completely pros
trated me. At the same time my lungs were much
afflicted. I was *0 reduced that it was with the great
est difficulty that I c >uld walk. I procured some of
your Compound Extract of Sarsaparilla, and com-,
menced taking it, I found that 1 began to improve—
my cough became less severe —the soreness of my
lungs and breast gradually subsided—my rheumatic
pains less acute. I attribute this mataty to your Har-i
saparilla. I have now been taking it for over two
months; have taken iu all five bottles. Its effects*
have been most satifactory to me, and I advise others
similarly afflicted to give you a trial.
JOH CLEMENT.

above certificate has long resided here, and at the

Popular Worm Candy.
As this is really a specific for Worms, aad the beet
and most palatable form to give to children, tt Is not
surprising that it is fast taking the place of all other
preparations for worms—it being perfectly tasteless,
and any child will take it.
Messrs. James Ruddle <t Cos. :
Gbntlkmkn : It gives me great pleasure to say,
alter using ail the other worm remedies known to me,
with but partial success to my children, I was advised
to try Dr. T. A. Hurley’s, and since using it my chil
dren have become well and healthy. The children
would eat it all the time, It is so pleasant, if we would
let them. I believe it is one of the best and safest
remedies known, and as such, recommend it to one
and all. JAS. W. TRAVIS.
