Josii Billings on the Mule.—Tho mule is half boss, and has Jackass, and then kums to a full stop, natur diskovered her mistake. Tha weigh more, akordin tu their heft, than enny other kreeter, except a crowbar. Tha kant hear enny quicker nor further than the hoss, yet thwir ears aro big enough for snow ahoes. You kas trust them with enny one whose life aiut worth enny more than the mule. The only wa tu keep them into a medder tincing, and let them jump out. Tha arc reddy for use, just as soon as they will du tu absure. Tha haint got enny friends, and will live on huckel berry bush, with an occasional chanse at Kanaba thissels. Tha are a mod ern invenshun, i dont think the Bible de ludes tu themattall. If tha ever die tha must kom rite tu life agin, for I never heard nobody sa “ded mule.” Tha are like sum men. very korrupt at harte ; ive known tl em tube good mu es for 0 months, just to get a cnanse to kick sumbody. I never owned one, and never mean to, unless there is a United Sta'es law passed requiring it. The only reason why tha are pashunt, is bekause tha are ashamed of themself. I have seen eddi-kated mules in asirkus. Tha kould kick, and bite, temenjis. I wonld not sa what I am forced tu sa agin the mule if hits birth want an outrag", and man want tu blame lor it. Too Smart by a Good Deal.—"We are told rather a rich story regarding a certain landlord and his wife, residing down in Clayton county. It appears that the wife’s peace of mind was sadly affected with that green-eyed monster—jealousy. The hus band usually stayed out until a late hour of night, and was suspected of being on too in timate terms with the hired girl. The wife determined to test the matter, requested the girl to change rooms with her for the even ing, hut it took considerable persuasion and even threats to induce the girl to consent to the change. The girl’s evident reluctance to make the exchange strengthened still more the jealous surmises of the wife. She accordingly provided herself with a dark lantern, and at bed time repaired to the hir ed girl’s room, and after extinguishing the lights she retired to bed, placing the dark lantern where it could be ready for immedi ate use. She did not wait long ’ere the door softly opened, and a man entered who proceeded to undress and get into bed. The wife in the meantime kept perfectly qniet, and when she got ready for the de nouement, she caught the supposed hus band around Jihe neck and threw a full blaze of her dark lantern upon his faoo, ex claiming, meantime, “Mow I’ve got you just where I want you 1” When, lo and be hold 1 she saw not her husband, but the hir ed man 1 A scene followed which it is needless for us to describe. —Layette (Io wa) Record.
