JNegro Killed. —We learn that lleu
iun B. Clifton killed a negro on Satur
day night last at his home in this Coun
ty. The facts of the case are about this;
The negro on the evening of the 20th,
approached Clifton, while engaged in
weighing meat in his smoke house and
asked him permission to go in and see
his family. His request was granted,
hut instead of going he took hold of
Clifton in a manner which indicated
violence. Clifton then drew his pistol
and shot him, from the effects of which
the negro soon died. The Coroner’s
iury returned a verdict in the ease in
with the above facts.

Another Paper.—A <l*y or two
since a country friend of burs, being in
town for the first time in a long while,
and seeing the telegraph poles planted
along one of our streets, remarked, in
all seriousness, that lie “ was Sorry that
.another paper was going to be estab
lished here, as he thought the Ji<:publi
can was sufficient for ail purpsoses.” On
being interrogated about the other paper
lie answered us that they were going
to have another telegraph paper, just
like the Macon Telegraph tor didn’t lie
see the telegraph poles, and that the
tricks would spoil be here for printing
another Telegraph newspaper! We
gave it up, fully convinced that our
.friend had never traveled beyond the
.copfipes of ,the plilitia district in which
he lives but a few times in his life.
