An Unxatcrai ? Mother. — We have
heard of unfeeling parents, but that
female who left her baby on an editor, s
floor step in Cleveland, with a note re
questing that ho bo taught to be. an
editor, ranks with Medea in utter and
indefensible heartle; -ness. What, had
tlie little cherub done to deserve such a
fate ? This, unhappy creature, doubt
less, entertained delusive ideas of edit
orial life. Some of our friends envy us
because they opine that the Southern
and Xational fix pres 3 Companies are
organized for the special purposes of
transporting the unlimited presents we
constantly receive—over ihe left. Lit
tle girlos envy us for opera tickets and
little boys free scats at the circus,
lazy people effect to admire our lot
because “we have nothing to do.” We
only wish their mothers had left them
at our door-sill with special injunctions
as to an editorial training. That’s the
extent of misery we wish them !
Wc took a look at the well

7-55?” The thieves ot Paris invented a
new modus operand!, called the “kiss
ing robbery.” A young girl runs up to
some person in the street, throws her
arms around him and kisses him ex
claming" 0 my dear uncle,” or “My
dear aunt,’ 4 as the ease may he. The
dear relative, once recovered from the
shock, reminds the fair creature that
she. has made a mistake ; explanations
ensue, and the ‘‘relative’’ thinks no
more of the adventure till he is remind
ed of it by being minus a watch ora
pocket-book.
The advices by the “Scotia” re
port U. S. Five-Twenties some five per
cent down from their highest quotat ions
a few weeks since- The reason is given
in the money article of the Liverpool
Times of the 6th instant, as follows :
The advices from Frankfort mention
that United States bonds have shown
depression during the past week, not
withstanding the favorable commercial
and financial reports published by the
New York journals. Investments have
apparently ceased for the present, and
sales by speculators have forced sales
donw 2 per cent. One writer says:
“The fact is, that while nobody believes
a second civil war, the differences be
tween the President and the Congress
begin to alarm our capitalists, and until
the. struggle shall have been settled in
a constitutional way, confidence cannot
revive. Political uneasiness is the only
reoson for the decline, as the market is
not overstocked, the price for money
being still higher than for the account ”
All other securities, American included,
maintain their quotations.
In other words, the cause is traced
to Radical politics, and the attempt on
the part of Congress, at its re-opening,
to carry out the Radical programme,
will cause a still greater depression in
American securities, both at home and
abroad, and send gold “higher than a
kite.” If the radicals don’t believe it
.now, wo know they will after awhile.

Marriage in Vermont.— The Rut
land (N't.) Herald publishes a letter
from Montpelier, which says three bills
have been introduced into the Vermont
Senate relating to marriage. The ten
dency of most of them is to reduce mar
riage to a limited partnership, each par
ty putting in as much capital as seems
best, and the partnership to he dissolv
ed upon very small provocation.
