We direct attention to the advertise

Is the very house to get good bargains.
Don’t fail to inspect their stock? as they
will be happy to see you whether you

Z3E We took a look at the well
known firm of Messrs. Waxelbauji &
Duo’s beautiful and large stock of Gent’s
Clothing and Furnishing Goods, also a
line stock of Boots and Shoes, and
found them to he the most superior in
quality, as well as in make, in this mark

Passes'ci Away.—The nmsquttoes are
leaving us. Cold weather is settling
their hash, and soon wid the last gray
headi and patriarch “ hand in his checks.”
Only one aged piercer visited our pillow
last night. His hum (he didn’t seem to
feel at cum) had a mournful sound. It
spoke of oilier days—we mean nights—
when, surrounded by his gayiv punc
turing companions, he struck Lis light
guitar. We felt him but we didn't find
him. We lit our last candle, and there
sat the little villain on the head hoard,
wiping his eyes with the corner of the
musquito bar. The eloquence of his
silent grief made us sad also. We
poked up a copy of “Young’s Night
Thoughts” with melancholy abstraction.
Slowly and silently we approached him,
so that we should not disturb his medi
tations or intrude upon his grief. lie
was weeping for those who had gone
before. “Young’s Night Thoughts;”
we poised it a moment in the air to bear
again that plaintive wail—and then we
w’aled him,
lie is gone ; lie, one of the last of the
IW usqnegan.
Lightly they’ll speak of the ‘sketev’ that’s gone.
Anil o’re li is cold carouse upbraid him ;
Bui litt e lie’ll bite, if they let him sleep on.

John Wilkes Boom.
The papers are now having much to
Hiy about, Booth, whether he he dead or
Bit. John Wilkes Booth was alive on
Be 13th day of July, 1860. The man
Bho was killed was not Booth, but an
person murdered in order to oh-
Hin the reward offered for his capture
will unravel a hall of mystery
Hw connected wi'h the affair, and show

Again we repeat earnestly
certainly that John Wilkes Booth
was taken to W ashington either

in July of this year.
A Word in Defense of Tilting
Hoops. —The Editor is absent, and know
ing his antagonism to the tilting hoop,
for he lias on several occasions give
ver.t to his pent-up wrath against them,
and in view of the facts stated, we come
to the assistance of those who may per
chance wear them.
We like them, and do not hesitate to
declare so emphatically. What, not to
have a strong and decided partiality for
the Tiltcr—graceful invention —delight-
ful conception—permit ter of glimpses of
tilings divine—would be saying that we
do not fancy visions of Paradise —would
he willing to close our vision to things]
above—never turning our rapturous
gaze upward! Away with such. We
have not lost the sweet spring-time
thrill of youth ! We love still its joys
and passions, and what awakens them
more than the sight of the Tiltcr ? In
them is “ every charm and art,” and in
different, cold and callous is the man
whose soul docs not fill with thrilling
emotions of delight, when lie beholds
the beautiful, animated parian shafts,
whose “delicious proportions were fash
ioned by the spirit of beauty,” glimmer
ing like the white winter moon through
clouds, from beneath the Tilter ! We
will sing thy praise from early morn to
welcome eve. We will never satiate upon
thy kind disclosures! Old men and
unfeeling old bachelors may croak —
prudish old maids with titian feet may
condemn thee—good mothers may de
spise and hate thee —hut never until our
feelings, our sensibilities, our heart shall
become petrified, will we fail to ascribe
praise to tiic Titter, and acknowledge
our indebtedness and gratitude to its in
ventor for a many a delicious peep at
tilings divine.
