At Home.
After an absence of over three weeks,
the Editor is pleased to announce to his
readers that lie is again at his post
and ready to servo them as usual
He is happy to state that he has made
quite an accession to his establishment,
which will enable him to accommodate
bis advertising patrons, and at the
same time furnish the readers of the
Jlcpublitio.n with a still greater amount
of reading matter, lie takes this oc
casion to return his thanks to Mr. 11. 1).
It a xi) ale, who so ably conducted the
paper during bis absence, and to the
foreman and other hands in the office
for the faithful and punctual manner in
which they have gotten out the paper,
and the interest they maiafeted in his
business.
To Corkksi’ONdexts. —On our return
borne, we find, quite a number of com
munications awaiting our attention.
These letters shall all be attended to as
soon as we have time to bestow the
py®;p<?t consul‘itffirn on them.
BSj?” S. Waxei.iimjm & Beo", who

Fine Pota-voas. —Mr. W. T. Adams*
Icnowing our propensity for good
things, has sent to our sanctum a bas
ket of sweet potatoes 'raised on his place
in. this county, Which in point of size
we think is heard to beat. The largest
weighed eight pounds, and others from
five to six. If we can procure a vessel
large enough to cook a few of them, we
intend to build a big fife in the yard and
let all hands sit aromul and cat until
they are satisfied with potatoes. If any
of our planting friends think they can
I beat these potatoes, wc are ready to re
ceive their samples and record the
same.

that they have the largest assortment
of Confectioneries and Groceries in
the place. They arc offering then
goods on such terms that it is useless for
a purchaser to enquire elsewhere for the
same article. Call at either the confec

Goon l-oa Georoiann. —The follow

would do well to hunt an auger-bole.:

Mr. Editor —l observed in your is
sue of yesterday a card signed by Cor
neal S. McCoy, warning all persons
from trustjjg me on his account, as I
had left his bed and board without just
cause or provocation. I therefore take
this method of informing the public
that lie never had a bed; the board has
always been furnished by myself, and
as to anybody trusting me on his ac
count, I know of none who would trust
himself. His credit always has been
below par, so much so that he could not
get trusted for his own shirting, and
now wears some of my under clothing
ou his beck slightly altered.

Tiie Radicals. —The Washington
much force; “The small majorities of
which the radicals boast, were won by
the red hand. But the American peo
ple are incapable of continued injustice.
—They will respond to the claims of
fairness and constitutional right. The
radicals may rejoice in their brief tri
urnph, but the re-action of conservative
patriotism and of a Catholic nationality,
will, ere long, assert itself, andwlie
South restored to its wonted plae™ in
the national legislature.”
110, for Liberia. —The Atlanta
Era says that one hundred and sixteen
colored persons passed through the city
yesterday, enroute for Charleston, whence
they wsil take the ship Tor Liberia. They
were in charge of Rev. . 11. W. Er&kine
of Monrovia, Liberia. Jirskiuc was educa
ted several years ago and sent out as a
missionary. lie returned a short time ago
for his relations, hut was induced by the
American Colonization Society to exert his
influence upon others. This is a portion of
the result.. We learn that there is quite a
large number in Charleston ready to sail,
These came from Tennessee.
Another Fire.— The new and hand
some residence of Cos). J. J, Morrison, on
Marietta street, was entirely destroyed by
fire about 10 o’clock yesterday morning.
The family were absent at the time. When
first discovered the flames were just burst
ing through the roi f.
The fire caught in the second story of
the house, it is supposed, from the remains
of fire left in one of the rooms in the morn
ing. It was discovered by some of the em
ployees of John 1). Gray& Co’s, rolling mill
who immediately ran to the rescue of the
property. They were too late to save any
portion of the house, but succeeded in
saving most of the furniture on the first
floor. All above was lost. Wc understand
that there was a considerable quantity of
family relics, which were esteemed very
highly, all of which was lost.
The house was one of the handsomest
that has been built since the close of the
war, and we regret to record its loss. It
was insured. Tlius we soe, in less than
twelve hours, Col. Morrison has lost two
valuable house, which §IO,OOO will scarcely
replace.
A New and Grand Epoch in Medicine.—Dr,
Maggiel is the founder of now Medicine System !
The quantitarians, whose vast internal doses en,
feeble the stomach and paralyse the bowels,
must give precedence to the man who restores
health and appetite, with from one to two of his
extraordinary Pills, and cures the most virulent
sore with a box or so of his wonderful and alli
healing salve. These two great specifics of the
Doctor are fast superceding all the stereotyped
nostrums of the day. Extraordinary cures hy
Dr. Maggiel’* Pills and Salve have opened the
eyes of the public to the inefficiency of the (so
called) rt medies of others, and.upon which the
people have so long depended. Maggiels Pills
are not of the class that are swallowed up by
the dozen, and of which every box full takeu
creates an absolute necessity for another. One
or two of Maggiel’s Pills suffices to place the
bowels in perfect order, tone the stomach, cre
ate an appetite, and render the spirits light and
buoyant, 'there is no gripißg, and no reaction
in the form of constipation. If ihe liver is af"
fected, its functions are restored ; and if the
nervous system is feeb e, it is invigorated- This
last quality makes the medicines very desirable
for the wants of delicate females. Ulcerous and
eruptive diseases are literally extinguished by
the disenfeotant power of Maggiel’s Salve. Iu
fact, it is here announced that Maggiet’s Bilious,
Dyspeptic and Diarrhoea Pills cure where all
others fail. While for burns, scalds, chilblains,
cuts and all abraisinsof the skin Maggiel’s Salve
is infallible. Sold by J. Maggiel, New York,
aad all Druggists, 25 cents July 7 ly.
