AroLOGETicA!. —Owing to the ab j
Renee of one of our principal hands we
are still bellied our regular schedule
time. We are doing the best we can un
der the circumstances, and hope our
friends will extend a little indulgence
for our shortcomings.
A Daily Paper—To Our Patrons.
Every day, the question is asked us
when do we intend to start a daily.—
There seems to ho a great desire on the
part of our citizens to have a daily in
Americus. The publication of a daily
paper is attended with considerable ex
pense and labor, and to sustain it there
must necessarily boa large amount of
local patronage. We are willing to do
our part of the Work, if oiir citizens will
do theirs. Americus is fully able to sus
tain a daily, and she owes it to herself
to do so. Its influence in promoting
trade and giving the city character
abroad, cannot be over-estimated. Let
every one then desiring a daily, come
forward and subscribe for it at once.—
Let every merchant doing business, put
in a liberal advertisement. There is no
reason why such a paper canilot ho sus
tained in Americus. Should We meet
with sufficient encouragement, we prom
ise to furnish our patrons with tho very
latest telegraphic news, eight hours ear
lier than it can be furnished through
any other channel. Every real estate
owner, every merchant and every man
who expects to live in this city, ought to
lend his aid to -this enterprise. Tho
Credit of our city abroad requires it—
will they doit?
In order to test tho matter, we pro
pose to commence the daily, as soon as
we obtain two hundred cash pay ivy sub
scribers, at ten dollars each, and obli
gate to carry it on one year, if life is
spared. Let the friends of the paper go
to work and secure that number. It can
be easily done. The matter therefore is
in the hands of our friends. It is for
them to say whether they desire a daily
or not. All who desire to subscribe will
notify us at an early day. If the requi
site amount of names arc not made up,
the money will be refunded.
Persons wishing to subscribe can
leave their names and money at either of
the stores of Furlow & Bao.; Adams,
Barlow & Cos .; P. 11. Oliver & Bro •
B. W. Smith & Cos.; G. M. llay, or Dr!
Eldridgk’s Drug Store.
BBL, Our young friend, Jake W.
Mainster is with L. Emanuel, No 2.
Loyless Range, where ho is ready to
wait on his friends and the public in
general. They have a neat assortment
of Dress Goods, and Clothing, Boots,
Shoes. Give him a call, as .Take is al
ways ready to give you a bargain, at
least he says so. Try him. Remember

The City Clock.— We arc pleased
to state that the contractors are progress
ing finely on tills work, and that in a
few days the clock will be ready to be
put up. The workmen who have this
in charge are determined to push tilings
through to completion without delay.
Success attend them.
{ggp The citizens of Americus, especial
ly the ladies, have long felt the need of
a regular shoe store, where they could
fit themselves without the trouble of
sending home bundles of shoes, to the
annoyance of themselves and the mer
chant. P. 11. Oliver & Bro. have
fitted tip comfortably and genteely a
room in the rear of their store, where
shoes and hosiery of every description
can be obtained at very low- prices.
Also Cloaks, Gloves, Nubias, &c., &c.
Nov. 15. It.
More Large Potatoes.— We thought
the potatoes noticed in our last issue
from Mr. W. T. Adams, was large enough
in all conscience but they were small
ones compared to a couple received on
yesterday from Mrs. Sloan. We cut
one of them up in four pieces and they
filled a half bushel measure-. The
iffeedman who brought them to the
office told us that they had plowed up
about a hundred bushels, and these two
were the smallest. Asa curiosity, we
would like to see one of the largest Mrs.
S. will please accept our thanks for the
small favor.

The Meteoric Shower.
This grand phenomenon was by pre
diction of the “wise men” to have taken
place last night. Os course as vigilant
sentinels on this “ watch tower” avc lay
awake all night to hail the advent of the
heavenly messengers; but with much
disappointment are compelled to chron
icle a slight mistake. ,/Eolus came blus
tering along just about day light and
made a big storm that roused us from a
doze. We jumped up to see the fallen
star, when to our surprise avc found our
Avardrobe prostrate on the floor.
But avc recommend look out again
to-night, perhaps Ave may have a shower
yet.
