‘CnaisTMAS is Coming. —But a few

so dear to every juvenile heart. Al

happy faces of their dear little ones.
The windinvs and shelves of stores
have commenced putting on their usu
al holiday appearance, and everything
gives token of anticipated enjoyment.
Among the stores which make a fine
display, perhaps the most glittering is
that of B. W. Smith & Cos., at the
well known stand so long occupied as
a Confectionery. .M e look a look
through his extensive stock of toys,
fire-works a’ml fancy articles, the other
day, and were tempted to repent our
temerity, for the idea of looking over
so many useful and ornamental articles
and not being able to purchase some
thing for our little darling and better
half, was almost too much tor us. —
Persch* desit'ihg to purchase tokens of
remembrance and toys for the ap
proaching frol.days, can find an as
sortment at the Confectionery store
of Smith & Cos. Call early and se
cure the best.
Messrs. Adams, Steer & Co—V c
never enter the store of this firm, but
that we see every member of it busily
engaged in exhibiting their rich
and beautiful goods to Ladies who
constantly throng their establish
ment. It is no astonishment why
ladies go there to make their purchas
es, for certainly the goods of this
house are not surpassed by any estab
lishment in South Western Georgia.
We make this broad assertion from
the fact that their stock comprises the
very best articles that can be purchas
ed from the leading Northern Estab
lishments. Besides it is a pleasure to
trade with the gentlemen comprising
this firm, for their manners ars so
pleasing, that one cannot refrain from
making a purchase, though they may
only call to examine the goods. '1 his
establishment can truly be styled a
first class Dry Goods House, and we
take pleasure in recommending it as
such, to all persons desiring to pur
chase any article in their line. Suc
cess to it, say we, and long life to the
gentlemanly proprietors.
Male Academy. —By referring to our
advertising columns, it will be seen that
Mrssrs Dodd & Hudson, ore expected to
take charge 0 f the Mule Academy in this
place, the ensuing year. Mr. Dodd’s quali
fications ns ananstructor are well known
to the citizens in this section and Mr. Hud
son conies with the highest testimon'als,
having been engaged in teaching for the
past ten years. We take pleasure in com
mending these gentlemen to the liberal pat
ronage of our citizens. They will pecupy
the house known as the Rylander Academy.
JBCiyllurrah for the Circus, and hurrah
fur the New Stock of Goods, just received
at No. 2, Loyless’ Block, Cotton Avenue,
where Jake M. Maltster, Agt., is giving
away goods at an enormous sacrifice, by far
cheaper than the cheapest, give him a. call.
Special to the Ladies—we have received from
our London Store, in Macon, a large as
sortment of Woolen Goods, Bugle Trim
mings, Dress Trimmings, <tc., Velvet and
Silk Ribbons, which wc are bound to sell
before New Year's Day. So come one and
come all and try the branch ot the London
Store, and see if we cannot do as we prom
ise. Jake, Lipman and Charley Smith, make
up the host of Clerks, and are always ready
to attend to their customers. Friends and
public in general, we say—give friend Jake
a call: Dec. 13-ts.
Holiday Presents. —At the Con
fectionery store of B. NY. Smith & Cos.,
maybe found several bushels of chil
dren’s toys, and if you want a dancing
“Jim,” a doll, a child’s tea set, a rail
road train, a steam boat, a stage coadi,
a whistle, a rattle, a picture book, or
almost anything with which to please
the little folks, go to IL W. Smith it
Cos., and you will find it.
Distressing AconnxT.-On Monday
last ft sad occurrence happened at the
residence of one of our fellow citizens,
Shephard Pryor, a little child ot Ins,
some 18 months old, was taken by its
nurse into the field where the hands
were at work, who set it down by a
fire and went oft and left it. In a
short time its cloths caught fire, and
before relief could be obtained it was
burnt to death.
Mr. Prior was in town at the tune,
and knew nothing about it till he re
turned home. The family have our
heartfelt sympathies in this tin ir sad
affliction.
A Faithful and Just Officer. —
It is a sincere pleasure to fecord the
worthy* deeds ol a faithful and just
officer. We allude to Kshii'hAßykd

wc have witnessed his
