As yet “Santa” lias deposited his gifts at but one establishment in this place, as will be seen from the advertisement of B. W. Smith & Cos. However ho has deposit ed enough cf them there, to give all the children of Americus a gift. The map of long gray hair and beard may be expected here next Monday night. Tub Knoxville Commercial. —We re gret tffht this sterling paper found it neces sary to discontinue its Daily and issue a Weekly. So able a journal, so conservative and high-toned and so earnestly devoted to the Union and to the advancement of justice, honor and prosperity to the whole country, ought to have been sustained. We miss its i daily visits to our table, jt conies, howev er, weekly, and abounds with able editorials, ladened with hope and good cheer, and re plete with wholesome advice to those who would destroy this Government. Oua Mavor and Aldermen. —First rate selection. No better could be made. The Mayor is a good one—an excellent one— knows bis business —has the sense and in dependence to attend toljia business—is a just man and has the nerve to do his whole duty. Two of the old board of Aldermen still remain— Brown and Lewis. Those who* have paid much attention to the “doings” about our streets, for thelast year, will remember these gentlemen, with what assiduity they attended to their work, as the ‘‘Street Committee.” They have done a g rtatdcal for nothing ! Did they get thanks or curses ? H©-Hurrah for the Circus, and hurrah for the New Stock of Goods, just received at No. 2, Loyless’ Block, Cotton Avenue, where Jake M. Mauister, Agt,, is giving away goods at an enormous sacrifice, by far cheaper than the cheapest, give him a call. Special to the Ladies—wo have received from our London Store, in Macon, a large as sortment of Woohm Goods, Bugle Trim mings, Dress Trimmings, &c., Velvet and Silk Ribbons, which we are bound to sell before New Year’s Day. So come one ami come all and try the branch of the London Store, and see if we cannot do as we prom ise. Jake, Lipnmn and Charley Smith, make up the host of Clerks, and are always ready to attend to their customers. Friends’ami public in general, we say—give friend Jake a call: Dec- 13-tF. Not Fair.—Wliat right has the “Earlt County- News” to purloin three of our edito rials and to adopt it ns his own ? Now we miglitbe induced to propare]editorials for that respectable sheet if we were applied to in the right way ; but to take it in the manner Suggested, is too bad—it is monstrous ! Jn the very same paper twojother articles of ours is copied and no credit given us 1 Don’t do that again, neighbor! We are becoming desperate and there is no telling what we might do, if you continue to persist in Ill’s ugly course ! Be a man and write your own editorials, or if others write them, give due credit. But the meanest thing of the age,.is, that, after we had sat up all night, without a drop of Bourbon to cheer us,or a single cracker or crumb of cheese to refresh the inner lean, to get the appointments of the Preachers of the Georgia Conference in print, almost every paper in the State published them' without saying a single word about the “Sumter T!e ruBUCAN 1” We tell you, gentlemen of the quill, that this is not according to “gunler.” Honor bright! Charleston Mercury.—No abler paper published in the Southern States than the Charleston .Mercury -and when we say this we mean it. No one can read its editorials without coming to the same conclusion Jlr. Ithott inherits the profound ability A his venerated father and wields a powerfurpen.
