This led us all thejaore to suspect that our Sabbath had become the day, and our fine churches the lialis for the weekly meet ings of the “Boat’d of Fa-hion.” Well, the next regular meeting will take place to morrow in all the “big! -steeple”houges in the city ; but let everv one be sure to have her “church bonnet” ready; also her church dress; furthermore, her eh roll shoes, iu short, a complete chutch outtit lor lien ■'thole body! The soul is naked euough God kno,,vs ; her garments are already in tetters, and hence the great necessity for a splendid decoration of the body according to the latest decision of the Board of Fashion. J nst in the proportion as Christianity i3 perverted and piety corrupted, does fashion able extravagance prevail Wo begin to think that universalism, and all the tation alisms that have been so active during tho past quarter of a century have done a bad job for religion. They seem to have re moved from the popular mind that whole some fear of the future which used to oppose the seduction of the Goddess of Fashion, and render almost any kind of a bonnet fit for church-going. People were then glad to get to church in as good an outfit as they could conveniently obtain, without stopping to inquire v hether any one would have any thing more elegant. They then thought more of the hegrt than of the head, more of the soul than of tjie feet, and more of the salvation of the y/hole body. They then had some regard for the text which reads : “Fear not him v,ho can kill the body, bat rather fear Ilhn who hath power to destroy both soul and body in hell fire.” ; . But the time is coming with every one when she will not inquire lor her “church bonnet,” but will rather ask for the “Com forter,” whose protection she had neglected to secur ■ in Iter infatuated regard tor the flimsy tinsel of the Board cf Fashion.—Cin cinnati Times, 10th.
