weather was quite warm on Sun**
day, but was rendered pleasant by a south
breeze that favored us all day. Yesterday
opened upon us in like manner, and before
the close of the day a refreshing rain fell.
Education —Every parent and guardian is
interested in this most imp* riant subject, and
we call the particular attention of all such to
the advertisement of Dr Randall, to be
found in another column Tl\e Dr. has a.
splendid reputation as a teacher, and we
have no doubt that entire satisfaction will be
given those who favor him with their patron
age.
Darlicular attention is directed to
the advertisement of Mr. F. if. Olivet?, who
desires to purchase Dried Fruit, &c. Plan

gentlemen of Mize's saloon, on
Cotton Avenue, particularly the generous
“Joe,” will plcttse accept the thanks of the
craft, for the mammoth watermelon sent us
ou last Saturday afternoon. It was a fine
specimen—weighing 30 pounds,—and us
sweet and delicious us it was huge It canto
in good season, and the avidity with which
it was demolished was sufficient evidence
that the treat was appreciated.
We would remind our rest (let's that their
bar is a glorious place to get a “ cooler” ami
so forth, during the “heated term.”
Fi. it as,—We are just now being overrun
and nearly tormented out of cur senses by
these abominable', subtle insects, careering
like wild horses over our shrinking flesh ;
and ever and anon the silent monotony of
our office is broken by (he loud, threatening
tone of l lie ty.jios, accompanied by a muttered
execration ft om between their closed teeth,
announce but too plainly that the cruel work
of these invulnerable destroyers of the eqnatn
amity of our temper, is going on -with them
also. Wecan only testify onr sympathy with
them by an anguished groan, and a futile
wish that we had every one of them in a hag
near a huge lightwood knot fire. Ah then!
it would be the i leasantest work we ever did
to feed the devouring flames with their ex
ecrable carcasses.
To us every thing baleful, everything dis
gusting, and everything abominable and ab
horred is embodied in that little insect the
flea—radicalism, oftlicCrownlow stamp, may
be a little worse.
The Confectionery, through their
clerk, the whole-souled, genial Beooks,
showers its kindness upon us, day after day,
for which we are thankful. Their saloon has
few centals and no superior in all that consti
tutes a first class retreat to enjoy cooling
refreshments, during these hot, and sultry
days. They keep constantly on hand, ice
cream, soda water, lemonade, &c.
