mciiiciiiul iihca of die 5ViI«l Cherry.
Ever since the settlement of America, Wild
Cherry has been known to possess very important
medicinal virtue. Every body knew this fact, but
nobody knew how to extract its essential proper
ties. Every mother gives Wild Cherry tea to her
children for worms, for colds, and for almost every
disease; and adults throughout our country are in
the habit of making a compound or syrup of Wild
Cherry bark, and other ingredients, to lie used in
spring as an antidote to complaints incident to that
changeful season. It is found by experiment that
the Wild Cherry possesses even far more impor
tant qualities than was ascribed to it. For the
first stages of Consumption, Asthma, no matter
how long standing. Coughs, Liver Complaint, etc.,
ills proved to be the best medicine known toman-
Dr. Wistar’s Balsam of Wild Cherry is a chemical
extiact, combined with a similar extract from Tar, i
which enhances its value. Its success in curing i
Pulmonary disease, in almost every stage, after our
best physicians could do no more, has astonished
the faculty, and led them to confess that Wistar's
Balsam of Wild Cherry possesses a principle here
tofore unknown among medical men.

SELMA, (Ala.) Jan. 2.— Cotton. —Since our
last. Cotton in onr market has advanced something
like * cent per lb. This advance in rates here
was caused by a rise in the Liverpool market of *
or Id., accounts of which have been received up
to the 4th December. Only a moderate amount of
sales were made during the week, and at prices
ranging from 9to 10 cents as extremes—principal
operations at 9* a 9|c.
MOBILE, Jan. 2.— Cotton. —'Flic- receipts since
our last statement amount to 17.797 bales, and the
exports to 9,647. leaving the stock cm hand and on
ship board 67,214 bales. The aggregate receipts
of the season are 88.946. At the same period last
year the rec> iuts vxere 133,601 bales, and the stock
on hand 80.879 hales.
We left the market at the date of our last re
view in a state of excitement springing out of the
advices by the Cambria, of the late movements
in Liverpool. Prices had ad vanned, and middling
cottons were quoted at 91 a 10c , with an upward
tendency and much firmness on the part of hold
ers. During the whole of the present week there
has been a good attendance of buyers, and they
have been met by factors with a disposition some
what genera! to part with their stocks. The con
sequence has been heavy sales, though with a |
gradual improvement in prices, more particularly
in the lower qualities. The transactions since ‘
Monday morning sum up 19,000 hales, as follows:
Monday 4000, Tuesday 2500, Wednesday 6000, .
* ami Thursday 5000. Friday being a holyday, only
1500 bales changed bands, and the market though -
| firm was entirely quiet. The eastern manufactu- \
rers ami buyers for the French market have been
the principal operators, with a considerable shew
of local speculation. Onr quotations are in accor
dance with the rates paid at the close of the week.
