a' out I*2 or 1 oVlock, it b«f * ne apparent that lale r
advices were in town, and the market became
very excited; at 4 o’clock i! e New Orleans mail
arrived with account* from Liverpool up to the •
15ih December, advising a veiy large advance in 1
that m irket, with sales for the precedin'; week un- ,
Jirecedented in amount and mostly on speculation. •
The excitement here, became intense audit was
discovered at tbe close of the day that sales bad !
been made to the extent ol about 1(),U00 bales, at
at very irregular price*. As high as Hie. had j
been paid for middlings, hut few purchases were
elicited after the new* b- ame public. On Thurs
day there was considerable enquiry, but no trans
act; on-of corsequ -nee to note. Brokers withe w r
their sOpples, and only about 2000 bales changed
hands, w hich consisted mostly of re-sales of the
previous day’s purchases. On Friday the market
came to a pause. .Many of the holders were di— 1
nosed to sell, but prices had ;p*»e up so high that
b iyers be.-ital d. anti the sales ri-ucieul only hTJ
biles.* Tlw business of the week foots up 21,000
b ties—the principal purclui-ew stip;>oscd to have j
been on local speculation, 'i’he advance estab- ,
lislied is fully H a lie on the current rates of last ;
week, but the market is so unsettled lhat we find it
difficult to arrange tlie quotations. \\ e give them
however from the best judgement we can make up, j
and will.in llie closing sales of the week, remark
ing that many holders are addug higher rates un- 1
der tlie belief that the 4ib Jan., steamer from Liv- |
crpoirl, now due, will bringu further improvement i
in that market.

NEW ORLEANS, Jan. 30.— Colton.— Arrived '
since the 26th inst., 10,704 bales. Cleared in the
name time, 12,574 furies—making a reduction in ;
stoikof 1447 hales, and leaving on hand, inclusive
of all on shipboard not cleared on the 29th inst., a
stock of 183,981 halos.
The receipt of accounts from Liverpool to the
15lh December, by the British sl.ip'l hellos, at this
port, bringing intelligence of a large advance in
the Liverpool cotton market, had so completely un
settled our market for this staple at the time of
making up our last report, that vve found it impos
sible to give, any accurate quotations, though vve
remarked that among the lew transaction* of
Tuesday there w ere sales of middling to good mid
dling Mississippi at Ilsa 11Je; showing an ad
vance of i ale bn our previous figures. And we
further remarked that holders generally were
cither asking still higher, and very irregular rates,
or were indifferent about selling at all, until in
possession of the ijibernia’s adv ices to tbe s:h in- i
slant, then daily expected. On Wednesday llit re i
whr rather more enquiry, and some 3500 bales
wer; disposed o£, the. market still exhibiting a very
irregular and unsettled diameter, though the
sales gave evidence of a further advance of a f to
ie, middling to good middling Mississippi cottons
having been sold at Ilia 111. and one. or two lots i
of.good middling to middling fair at 12c per lb.— ;
Most holders, how ever, continued indifferent about :
selling until in possession of ibe steamer’s accounts. |
On Thursday a violent rain storm, which continu- '
ed throughout the day, almost entirely suspended
out-door operations, and the transactions in the
cotto-n market were restricted to some 1500 bales,
nearly the w hole in one list, the price of w hich is
not made public. The mail cams through, but
brought no news. Yesterday the mail failed to ar
rive until late in the forenoon, and brought nothing
beyond Montgomery, Ala. Rumors, however,
were rile throughout the day that the Hibernia’s
ncr< urns had been received by private express,
and it was stated that a further advance had taken i
place in cotton, but we could not arrive at any
thing authentic, and our market gave little indica
tion of the pre enee of any more favorable advices,
tile enquiry being moderate, and tbe sales barely
reaching 250*) bales, making a tot il since our last
of onl y 7500, ami for the week of 16,000 bales.—
Besides this a cargo afloat, of about 1800 bales,
changed bands, ata round ail vance of some slo,o* 0.
As regards prices they' are still quite too irregular j
to quote w ith strict ami rat y. though we have v en- j
lured a scale of figures which approximate to cor- |
redness, and which will furnish some guide to the
position <>f the market, until the receipt of the ;
steamer's accounts shall establish a more certain '
basis.

The stimulating power of the ingrcdicntscom
posing ttiissiolution is such, that hy steeping the
Seed in it, tho effect is not only to accelerate the
germination, but to render the vegetation more
\ igorous, by its useful action as a hygroscopic;
the gaseous emanations of carbonic acid, and
carbonated hydrogen, nourish the plant, and
make-it niore productive to the Farmer, by pro
ven! ing rust and the attacks ot insects.
The numerous advantages arising from the use
of this Steep, are lst, lhat it is the direct appli
cation of pabulum to the seed, instead of the |
ground. 2d. It supersedes all brinings, lime, i
plaster, and all other troublesome operations now |
in use. 3d. It causes a much more speedy and i
hardy growth; and iasllv, by maturing much
sooner, (vve think l()da's,)it w ill evade the rust, i
and consequently, give the husbandman a more j
profitable harvest; also, the cost is moderate , ($5 j

After being soaked, dry it through a hair- j

CO TTON SEED.— Southern Planters would j
find a great benefit by using this Solution as a l
sleep for their Cotton Seed betorc planting. The |
longer the Seed stand soaking the better. After
having been soaked, the Seeds must be drained
in a sieve or basket, and immediately planted.
