CHARLESTON, April 17.— Cotton. —Our re

prevailed, and w hen we closed our inquiries, tin* 1
transactions had reached near 2400 hales, at full
prices. There wis also a fair demand forthearii

fined solely to the belter descriptions of I Upland, and
on these grades the prevailing rates of the previous j
day w-re not ordy fully sustained, hut it is gene- i

whether their orders had been exhausted. we will i

CHEMICAL SOLUTION.
FOR THE IMPROVEMENT OF
| WHEAT AND OTHER SEEDS.
j rQ N JI K subscriber being the only possessor in the
.EL I niteil tstates, of the refine for preparing
!i AU 1 ERI VKhS CHE vi ICALSULU i lUN,
for which the Society of Encouragement and Ag
rieuiti.ro of Prance, after testing the value of it
for three consecutive years, through a commissi. n
composed of Scientific Agriculturists and Che
mis’s, and after their favorable report, awarded
the inventor a premium of 3,000 francs, and a
gold medal.
'J lie stimulating power of the ingredients com
posing this s olution is such, that b, steeping the
Seed tn it, {lie effect is not only to accelerate the
germination, hut to render the vegetation more
vigorous, by its useful action as a hygroscopic;
the gas, ous emanations of carbonic acid, and
carbonated h\drugen,* nourish the plant, and
make it more productive to the Farmer, by pre
venting ruM and the attacks of insects.
The numerous advantages arising from the use
of this Steep, are —Ist, that it u the dinct appli
cation of pabulum to the seed, instead of the
ground. 2d. Jt supersedes all brininys , lime,
plaster, and all other troublesome operations now
in u»e. 3d. It causes a much more speed* aml
hardy growth; an 1 lastly, by maturing much
sooner, ( we think 10 da sT it will evade trie rust,
and consequently, give the husbandman a more
profitable harvest; also, the cost is moderate, (i;3
fur the barrel oi 33 to 33 gallons )
DIRECTIONS FOR I’SLXG THE CHEMICAL
SOLUTION.
Put in a tight tun as much of the Solution
*>s is required for the quantity of Seed you ha e
to soak—throw in the seed and let it remain, as
follows *
WHEA T and RYE, G Hours or more
OATS and BARLEY. 3 Hours or mure
CLOVER ami O F4IER
SEED, C Hours.
IN I) 1A N COR \. 18 to 24 1 1 ou rs.
; ?[c Auer being soaked, dry it tnrough a hair
-1 sieve before sowing.
CO 11 On SEED. — Southern Planters would
find a great benefit by using this Solution as a
■deep for their Colton seed be I ore planting. The
longer the Seed stand soaking the better. After
having been soaked, the Seeds must be drained
in a sieve or basket, and immediately planted.
P>r the information of those who wish second
testimony on this matter, he subjoins the opinion
of some well known Agriculturists, who tried the
preparation on Wheat last Fall, and now renew
their orders for an enlarged quantum for spring
seedings.
Extract of a let'er from JOTTN S.- SKIN
NER, Esq., dated February 15. 1815. Your So
lution was tried, not b, me, but mv own son, P.
G. Skinner; the Wheat he steeped in it was
sowed verv late, yet he says the effect is very ap
parent amt ItighL beneficial. 1 shall recommend
the trial ofthe Solution to ail my friends next
spring, for their Gals, Com, Ax.
i Col. N. GOLDSROROUGH. writes. March
Gib, 1843; Three bushels w.-re seeded in stiff
white oak land, and here I have every reason t >
he well satisfied with the experiment; the Who t
came up theee lavs earlier, and grew up with as
tonishing vigor, and has maintained a supedoriiv
over the adjacent Wheat, which was brined and
limed and seeded the same dav in land of the
same quality. It has constantly appeared thus
far as if the land in which the Wheat stteeped in
the Solution was seeded had been manured, and
I lie other not; whereas the whole was dres* >d the
preceding spring with barn-yard manure, &c.
Commodore JONES, U. S. NT \y, writes : ‘As
to the effects ot the Solution on the growing crop,
&c., I think very favorably. Jr has add* 1 much
to the appearance as well as t > the gro wt h, Ac.”
\A)rJer, double the quantum used last Fad.)
Green Valley Farm, August 2 7, ISlu. — I hare
tried your solution, 1 ist fall on Wheat. I sowed
a piece of land of three acres,' one half the seed
soaked with the Solution, and th>* oilier without
am' soaking. One acre and a half, with the
seed soaked, gave 21 i bushels Wheat, the other
one and a half acres only Gelded I2|; the Wheat
weighed 594 pounds j*er bushel, while that not
soaked, onlv 57L The Wheal soaked came up
nearly four days before the other, and harvested
