A number of cases of gout have been cured by
this preparation. In one of these cases, the mail

painsnnd nervous affections.
In fact, in every case w here the medicine has
been taken for some time, no matter for whit pur

been improved by it.
In conclusion, the proprietor would say that some

CANCER.
xntercslln g rose cured by Jayne's Alterative.
In the spring of 1831, a cancerous tumor appear
ed in the right breast of Airs. IMuche, wife of I‘eter
Stretch, of Salem. N. J. It was examined by many
J’hysicians, and was considered hyall as cancerous,
and besides bore all the characteristic marks of
one. All probable means of removing it w ere used
without the slightest benefit, ft continued to in
crease both in size and painfuiness, until all hope
of saving lu-r life, but by a painful operation, xx as
abandoned, which, after a consultation of eminent
Physicians, was performed. Jan. Ist, 1832, by Dr.
John Rhea Barton, assisted by Dr. Uednian. the
proprietor, and two other medical genliern-n. The
xvhole and entire right breast w as removed, and af
ter examination of the tumor, was pronounced by
all present a cancer of the .most malignant charac
ter. In about three months, after enduring im-retU
hie sufferings, she was enabled, though broken in
spirit, to get about again. Hie remained feeble,
and her general health was exceedingly had, as in
deed it had been for sexeral years before. In the
spring of 1837, upwards of live years after her breast
had been removed, a painful tumor made its ap
pearance on the right side, immediately over the
part formerly occupied by the nipple of the right
breast, previous to its removal. This tumor steadi
er increased for several months, and became so
painful as to deprived her of rest. The glands un
der the right arm were enlarged; and scirrhus, and
a hard, irregular, and at times painful tumour, ap
peared in the left breast. No operation could now
arrest the disease. Indeed her whole laidy appear
ed to be a mass of disease. Her case was consid- ■
rred hopeless. Hie was of a very scrofulous habit, ;
both her parents having diet! of Pulmonary con
sumption. The experiment was now made with
this Alterative. It was at first given in small
doses, three times a day, and the doses very gradu
ally, hut steadily increased daily, as long ns she
took it, which w as about six months, and the skin
over and around the tumour was wet night and
morning with a strong solution of lodine and lly
driodate Potash. The tumour continued increas- 1
ing in size for about six weeks, and was at times j
very painful, w hen the pain suddenly ceased alto
gether, and the tumour swelled cpit at the base, and
became soft and then began to diminish, and con
tinued gradually decreasing until every vestige of
disease was removed. The tumour in her left
breast, and those in her right axilla were also dis
persed. No cancerous or scrofulous tumours ever
* appeared afterwards; and her general health, which
had been so had for fourteen years as to make life a
burthen, xvas effectually ami permanently restored.
The proprietor is in possession of the diseased
breast, and those who choose may examine it. He
w ould also say that he could mention over a dozen
rases equally interesting, wherein his Alterative
has subdued cancer and cancerous tumours, but he
lias not room hereto record them.
Mrs. Sarah Young, of Quinton's Bridge, N. J., |
had a goitrous tumour on the left side of her wind
pipe, as large as the half of an orange, which w as
cured by using this Alterative fur about four
months.
jig H S ■■■■■», South Fourth-street, Phila
delphia, was also cured of an enlargement of the
throat, which filled the entire space between the
chin and breast-hone, and extended around on
each side of her neck to behind her ears, ami frem
her ears to her shoulders, anil produced awful de
formity. It commenced growing when she was
but five years old. and continued gradually to in
crease until she was nineteen, at which time she
commenced using this Alterative, which she took
for seven months, which entirely reduced the en
largement; and she has now as smooth and pretty
a neck as can be found. The proprietor is not at
-iberty to give her name in prim, but will refer per
son* to her.

i Dear Doctor—lt is difficult to find w ords to express the.
gratitude which I feel towards you fur the interest yon
| have tak n to relieve me in my distress. In the year
1542 I contracted a heavy cold, w hich finally settled on
my longs; in a few months after I commenced coughing
and raising offensive matter, which smell very bad. i
Having heard that Sherman’s Lozenges were good for a
j cough I tried a few boxes of them, but they had not the I
least effecton me. I the-i called in the best physician in the
place, whon:teiided me a few mouths, but without Stic j
i I then saw an advertisement in one of the city
papersof Wistar’s Balsam of Wild Cherry, of which J
purchased three battles, at the corner of Fulton and Nas
sau streets, but I could not perceive ti e least beneficial
| effect from it, on the contrary I think it xvas a great in
| jury to me. Shortly after using it I commenced raising
Mood in large quantities; I xvas taken dow n (tick and
confined to the house for three months, during xx hirh
i time 1 lost my appetiie and fell away very fast; I was
then ind-irrr! to consult Dr. Curtisof New York, (one ol
the best physicians in the city,) but he could do me no I
good. J again became worse, and was confined to#he
, bouse alltast winter stud spring, and I gave up alt hope of j
I ever getting any better, as I again raised blood am) my 1
j rough xvas very severe, together with a pain in my hrea«t i
and under the shoulder blade. 31 v friends now gave tip
j nil hopeof my recovering, and thought every day xx-as
- thelast. About this time I heard of your BALBA3I OF |

like many others, --nd was fearful that it might be a regn- j
lar humbug; I however finally consented to trv it. as I ,
| thought it could make me no w orse. My brother then i
I purchased abotfle of it at. 375 Bowery, N. Y.. nnd I com- j

full I could sleep all night, and in the morning f had ait i
appetite for mv breakfast. I still keep on taking it nnd
find great benefit from if—the pain in my breast isentirr-
