HOW AWFULLY CULPABLE,
TO NEGLECT USING THE GENUINE
DU. TAVLOU’s BALSAM OF LIVERWORT.
375 Bowery, N. Y.
those be who have Pulmonary Consumption,
J.Y El or any affection of the Lungs Liver or Chest,
after reading ihe following letter, just received from a
ra st respectable inhabitant of Westchester County
New York.
Taruvtov.’.v, Aug.P, ! 3 44.
Dear Doctor—lt is difficult to find w ords to express tha
gratitude which I feel towards yon for the interest you
have taken to relieve me in my distress. In the year
1342 I contracted a heavy cold, which finally settled on
my lungs; in a lew months after 1 commenced coughing
and raising offensive matter, which smell very bad.
Having heard that Jslie'inan’s Lozenges were srood for a
cough I tried a few boxes of them, but they had not the
least eff ct'innie. 1 thou called in the best physician in the
place, whoa tended me a few months, but wiliiout su
cess; I ilieu saw an advertisement in one of the city
p ipersof Wistar’s Balsam of Wild Cherry, of which 1
pur based three bottles, at the corner of Fulton and N'ns
tail streets, but I could imt perceive t e least beneficial
effect from it. on the contrary 1 think it was a great in
jury to mo. Shortly after using it I commenced raisin?
blood in large quantities ; I was taken down sick ami
confined to I In; hou-e for three months, during which
lime I lost my appetite and fII away very fast; I was
then ind ced to consult Dr. Curii* of New York, (one of
the best physicians in the city,) but lie could do me no
good. I again became worse, ai d was confined to the
house ail last winter and spring, and I gave up all hope of
ever getting any better, as I again raised blood and mv
cough was very severe, together with a pain in my breast
snd underthe shoulder blade. .Mv friends now gave up
■II hopeol my r-covenng, and thought every day was
thelast. About this time I heard of your BALSAM OF
LIVER.M ORTotting good for consumptioH. but I was
like many others, 'nd was fearful that it might be a regu
lar hunting; I however finally consented to try it, a* I
thought it could m ike me no worse. >iv brother then
purchased a bottle of it at 375 Bowery, N. V. and I com
menced taking it. and by the time 1 had used one b d le
full I could sleep all night, and in the morning I had an
appetite for ray breakfast. I still !,p. p on taking it and j
find great benefit front it—t ie pain in my breast is entire
ly gone, and f n>i?o no more blood. Within the last two
monthsl have gained in weight -ix pounds and much in
ptreng h. I would therefore adv ise all who have any j
assoc inn of the Lungs or Liver to try the Genuine Dr.
Taylor’s Balsam of Liverwort, for I truly believe it to
bethe best remedy in existence for diseases of the Lungs i
or Liver, Should any one doubt the tbovc statement ro- |
laliveto your valuable medicine, let i.m call on me, and j
I will convince them ofits virtue.
Yours respectfully. DE RF-VERE.

diseases originating from a depraved or Impure

i The proprietor of this Alterative would most re
spectfully assure rt.e public that he has not offered
1 this preparation to their notice without due reflec
tion, and close and rigid sinc-V, furr until after
, twelve years’experience had manifested ils great
j superiority over every other article of the. kind.—
and lie now recommends it with confidence, fully
i believing that the above combination of medicine
i vs ill effectually eradicate from the system a class
| of disease some of which have heretofore been cuti
j sidered incurable.
He has prescribed it in almost every variety of
disease and with unparalh le.d success, especially
in cutaneous affections, cancerous, scrofulous and
scorbutic diseases, and diseases originating from
i obstruction or enlargement of the glands or impnri
i ty of the blood.
Cancer and Cancerous Tumors.
He ha? used this preparation in upwards of tvven-
I ty well defined cases of cancer and cancerous tu
: mors, and in every case but one. with perfect and
I entire success.
Uronchocele or Goitre, (Swelled Neck.)
He lias prescribed it in over a hundred cases of
goitre, ami it has never failed in a single instance,
to completely remove the disease. .Not a solitary
case offatlute. All were cured.
The success lie has met with ir. curing hronrho
cele and cancerous a flections has convinced him
that these dangerous and horrible diseases may he
removed with as much certainly as Fever and
Ague. He does not wisltto he understood as say
-1 ing that they can he cured us conn as Fever and
Ague, hut w ith asYfinch ccftaihtyl and further, that
i lie has good reason for believing that this prepara-
I lion will not only < ure these diseases when formed,
I hut that it destroys the \ irus or poisonous principle
lurking in the system, from which that peculiar
class of diseases, as well asth.it ofscrofula emanate.
Scrofula —King's Evil.
This preparation has been used in numerous cases
| ofScrofuia, King’s Evil, and scrofulous swellings,
i and always with the most dcci ed success.
Skin Diseases.
I Tie has prescribed it in a great variety ofcntafie
i ous affections, and found it successful incuringsalt
1 rheum, or letter, biles, blotches, pimples, morphew
j and jaundiced skin. Sc.
Dyspepsia and Liver Complaint.
! It has been used in numerous cases of liver corn
; plaint and Dyspepsia, and wah the happiest died.
Tic-Douloureux.
It has been used in several cases of Neuralgia,
: and in every case it was successful.
Rheumatism.
This preparation has been prescribed in a. great
many cases of chronic rhenmaism, and in every
casein which it was used until the system became
affected by the medicine, the disease was removed*
Gout*
A number of eases of gout have been cured by
this preparation. In one ol these eases, the man
had been afHieted with it so severely for thirteen
years as to entirely disable him from business, and
for five months immediately previous to his taking
the Alterative he had been confined to Ids room;
hut before he had finished tiie third bottle, lie was
j enabled to walk about the streets and soon after re
i turned to his business, from which he had so long
i been excluded by his afflictions.
Dropsical Swellings,
This medicine increases the powers of digestion,
excites the absorbents into healthy exercise, by
j which watery or calcareous depositions, and all
I unnatural enlargements are reduced. It imparts
i tone and vitality to the whole system, removing
I nick and morbid headaches, giddiness, wandering
pains and nervous affections.
In n ict, in every case w here the medicine has
been taken for some time, no matter for wh t pur
pose, the general health of the patient has always
been improved ny it.
In conclusion, the proprietor would say that some
of the most astonishing cases of skin diseases, can
cer, bronchocele.and scrofula, have been cured t*y
this medicine, that have ever been recorded; but
want of room in this sheet precludes their publica
ion at this time.
CANCER.
i An interesting cose cured by Jayne's Alterative.
In the spring of liiol. a cancerous tumor appear
ed in the rig lit breast of Mrs. Phoebe, wile of Peter
j btretch, of Salem, N. J. It wa* examined by many
Physician*, and was considered by all as cancerous,
and besides bore ail the characteristic marks of
one. All probable means of removing if were used
| without the slightest benefit. It continued to in
crease both in size and painfulness, until all hope
! ol saving her life, but by a painful operation, was
abandoned, which, after a consultation ol eminent
Physicians, was performed. Jan. Ist, 183 i, by Dr.
John Rhea Barton, assisted by Dr. Redman, the
proprietor, and two other medical pert'emen. The.
whole and entire right breast was reraa" 4 *'!, and af
ter examination ol the tumor,- was pronounced by
ail present a cancer of the most nlaiisnant charac
ter. In about three months, afterenduring inere di
hie sutlerings, she was enabled, though broken in
spirit, to get about again, .''he remained feeble,
and her general health was exceedingly bad, as in
deed it had been for several years before. In the
spring of 1837. upwards of five years alter her hi east
ha i been removed, a painful tumor made its ap
pearance on the right side, immediately over the
part formerly occupied by the nipple of the right
breast, pre v ions to its removal. This tumor steadi
ly increased for several months, and became so
painful as to deprived her of rest. The glands un
der the right arm were enlarged; and scirrhus, and
a hard, irregular, and at times painful tumour, ap
-1 peared in tlie. left breast. No operation could now
arrest thedisease. Indeed her w hole body appear
ed to he a mass of disease. Her case was consid
ered hopeless. Hie was of a very scrofulous h’abit,
both her parents having died of Fulmonarv con*
sumption. The experiment w.is now made with
this Alterative. It was at first given in small
| doses, three limes a day. and th** doses very gradu
; ally, hut steadily increased daily, as long as she
I took it, which was about six months, and the skin
j over and around the tumour was wet night and
I morning with a strong solution of lodine and Hy
j driod.ite Potash. The tumour continued increas
ing in-sire for about six weeks, and was at times
very painful, when the pain suddenly ceased alto
gether. and the tumourswelled out at the base.and
i became soft and then began to diminish, and con
| tinned gradually decreasing until every vestige of
I disease was removed. The tumour in her left
breast, ami those in her right axilla were also dis
persed. No cancerous or scrofulous tumours ever
appeared afterwards; am! hergeneral health, w hich
had been so had for fourteen years as to make life a
burthen, vvaseffec ualiyand permanently restored.
The pronrietof is in possession of the diseased
j breast, and those who choose may examine it. He
would also say that he could mention over a dozen
eases equally interesting, wherein his Alterative
has subdued cancer and cancerous tumours, but he
i has not room hereto record them.
Mrs. Sarah Young, of Quinton’s Bridge, N. J.,
had a goitrous tumour on the left side of her w incl
pipe,a- large as the half of an orange, which was
cured by using this Alterative for about four
■ months.
Miss R S .South Fourth-street, Phila
i delphia, was also cured of an enlargement of the
throat, which filled the entire space between the
chin and breast-bone, and extended around on
each side of her neck to behind lu-r ears, and from
her ears to her shoulders, ami produced awful de
formity. It commenced growing when she was
; but fixe years old. and continued gradually to in
1 crease until she was nineteen, at which time she
: commenced using this Alterative, which she took
for seven months, which entirely reduced the en- :
largement; and she has now a* smooth and pretty i
a neck as can be found. The proprietor is not at :
ihert yto give her name in print, hut will refer per- ’
son* to her.
