Eke proprietor of this .Alterative would most, re
-4 -oectlully assure the public that he has not offered
this preparation to their notice without due reflec
tion, and close and rigid study, nor until after
twelve years' experience had manifested its great
auperiority over every other article of the kind, —
j.nd he now recommends it with confidence, fullv
cl eving tliat the above combination of medicines
will effectually eradicate iVom the system a class
td d,scales some ot which have heretofore been con
sidered incurable.
He has prescribed it in almost every variety of
diseases and with unparalleled success, especially
n cutaneous affections, cancerous, scrofulous and
scorbutic diseases, and di><ease«; oritinatiu? from
obstruction or enlargement of the glands or impuri
ty of the blood.

Tie has used this preparation in upwards of twen
ty well defined cases of cancer and cancerous tu
mors. and in every case but one with perfect and ,
entire success,
Broncliocele or Goitre, (Swelled Neck.)
He has prescribed it in over a hundred cases of
goitre, and it has never failed in a single instance to
completely remove the disease. Not a solitary j
case of failure. All were cured.
The success lie has met wish in curing broncho
ceie and cancerous affections has convinced him
that these dangerous and horrible diseases may be
removed with as much certainty as Fever and
Ague. He does not wish to be understood as sav -
ing that they can be cured as soon a* Fever and \
Ague, but with as much certainty; and further, that
he has good reason for believing that this prepare- 1
tion will not only cure these diseases when formed,
but that it destroys the v irus or poisonous principle
lurking in tiic system, from which that peculiar
class of diseases, as well as that of scrofula emanate,
Scrofula —King’s EviL
This preparation has been used in numerous I
eases of scrofula. King's Evil, and scrofulous swell
ings, and always with the most decided success.
Skin Diseas ?s.
He 1 ias prescribed it in a great variety of cutane

rheum or tetter, biles, blotches, pimples, morpliew j

Dyspepsia and Liver Complaint.
It has been used in numerous cases of liver com- i
plaint and Dyspepsia, and with the happiest etlect.

It has been used in several cases of Neuralgia,
and in every case it was successful.
Rheumatism.
This preparation has been prescribed in a great
many cases of chronic rheumatism, and in every
case in Which it was used until the system became
affected by the medicine, the disease was removed. I
Gout.
A number of cases of gout hate Wen cured bv
this preparation. In one' of theve cases, the man
hud been affiicted with it so severely for thirteen
years as to entirely disable him from business, and
for tive months immediately previous to Ids taking
the Alterative he had been confined to his room;
but before he had finished th<' third bottle, he was
enabled to wal c abb it the streets and soon after re
turned to his business, from which he had so long j
been excluded by his affliction.
Dropsical S wallin r&,
This medicine increases the powers of digestion
excites the absorbents into healthy exercise, by !
which watery or calcareous depositions, and all un
natural enlargements are reduced. It imparts
tone and vitality to the whole system, removing '
sick and morbid headaches, giddiness, wandering
pains and nervous affections.
In fact, in every case where the medicine has
been taken for some time, no matter for what pur
pose, the general health of the patient has always
been improved by it.
In conclusion, the proprietor would say that some
of the most astonishing cases of skin diseases, can
cer, bronchocele, and scrofula, have been cured bv i
this medicine, that have ever been recorded; but j
want of room in this sheet precludes their pubiica- j
tion at this time.
Cancer.
An interesting case cured bj Jaime's Alterative.
In the spring of 1831, a cancerous tumor appear
ed in the ri<rht breast of Mrs. Phoebe, wife of Peter
Stretch, of Salem N. J. Jt was examined bv many
Physicians, and was considered by all as cancerous,
and besides bore all the characteristic marks of
one. All probable means of removing it were Used
without the slightest benefit. It continued to in
crease both in size and paiafulness, until all hope
of saving her life, but by a painful operation, was
abandoned, which, after a consultation of eminent
Physicians, was performed, Jan. Ist, 1832, by Dr.
John Rhea Barton, assisted by Dr, Redman, the
proprietor, and two other medical gentlemen. The
whole and entire right breast was removed, and af
ter examination of the tumor, was pronounced by
all present a cancer of the most malignant charac
ter. In about three months, after enduring incredi
ble sufferings, she was enabled, though broken in
spirit, to get about again. She remained feeble,
and her general health was exceedingly bad, as in
deed it had been for several years before. In the
spring of 1837, upwards of live years after her breast
had been removed, a painful tumor made its ap
pearance on the right side, immediatek over the
!>art formerly occupied by the nipple of the right
ireast, previous to its removal. This tumor steadi -
ly increased for several mouths, and became so
painful as to deprive her of rest. The glands un -
der the right arm were enlarged; and scirrhus, and
ahard. irregular, and at times painful tumour, ap
peared in the left breast. No operation could now
arrest the disease. Indeed her whole body appear
ed to be a mass of disease. Her case was consid
ered hopeless. She was of a very scrofulous habit,
eoth her parents having died of Pulmonary con
bumption. The experiment w'as now made with
shis Alterative. It was at first given in •mall doses,
three times a day, and the doses very gradually,
but steadily increased daily, as long as she took it,
which was about six months, and the skin over and
around the tumour was wet night and morning with
a strong solution of lodine and Hydriodate Potash.
The tumour continued increasing in size for about
*ix weeks, and was at times very painful, when the
pain suddenly ceased altogether, and the tumour
swelled out at the base, and became soft, and then
began to diminish, and continued gradually decreas
ing until every vestige of disease was removed.—
The tumour in her left breast, and those in her
right exilla were also dispersed. No cancerous or
ncroftilous tumours ever appeared afterwards; and
Jfier general health, which had been so bad for four
teen years as to make life a burthen, was effectu
ally and permanently restored. The proprietor is
in possession of the diseased breast, and those who
choose may examine it. He w'ould also say that
he could mention over a dozen cases equally inter
esting, wherein his Alterative has subdued cancer
and cancerous tumours, but he has not room here
to record them.
Mrs. Sarah Young, of Quinton’s Bridge, N. J,, had
a goitrous tumour on the left side of her windpipe,
»s large as the half of an orange, which was cured
by using this Alterative for about four months.
Miss R S , South Fourth-street, Phila
delphia, was also cured of an enlargement of the
throat, which filled the entire space between the
chin and breast-bone, and extended around on each
side of her neck to behind her ears, and from her
ears to her shoulders, and produced awful deformi
ty. It commenced growing when she was but five
years old. and continued gradually to increase un
til she was nineteen, at which time she commenced
using this Alterative, which she took for seven
months, which entirely reduced the enlargement;
and she has now as smooth anil pretty a neck as can
be found. The proprietor is not at liberty to give
her name in print, but will refer persons to her.

Magi!Stic Fluid.
rgAIIIS remarkable invention, which has received
i the almost universal approbation of the Medi
cal Profession of Great Britain, comprises an en
tirely new application of Galvanism, as a remedial i
a:;ent, by means ot w hich the ordinary Galvanic
Batteries, Electric and Magnetic Machines, A’c..
arc entirely dispensed with, and the mysterious
powers of Galvanism applied without any of the
objections which are inseparable from the general
umde now in use. The strong doses, and at irreg
ular intervals, in which Galvanism is applied by the
Machines, has been pronounced after a fair and im
partial trial, to he decided!ij injurious, and it was to
remedy this radical defect, that this new applica
tion was projected, writeh after unceasing toil and
perseverance has been brought to its present state
of perfection. The Galvanic Rings answer all the
purposes of the most expensive Machines, and in
many other respects are more safe and certain in
accomplishing the desired effect.
The Galvanic Kings, used in connection with the
Magnetic Fluid, are confidently recommended in
alt disorders which arise fom am enfeebled or uu
healthif state of fie nervous or vital system ., and those
comolaints are among the most painful and univer
sal to which we are subject. They arise, without
exception, to one single cause—a derangement of
the Nervous system—and it was in these cases that
oilier “remedies” having so often failed, a new
a rent was greatly needed, which it is confidently
believed, has been found in the proper and judi
cious application ot Galvanism.
The Galvanic Kings have been used with entire
success in all cases of Rheumatism, acute or chronic,
applying to the head, face or limbs; Govt. Tic-
Dalu eux. Toothache. Bronchitis , Vertigo, Nervous
or Sick Headache, Indigestion. Pa.ro/jsrs, Palsy,
Ejiilcjsi/, Fits, Cramp, Palpitation of the Heart, Ap
pofie.r i. Stiffness of Joints, Spinal Complaints, Jam- j
ha go, Nn/ralgia, Nevmrrs I're/no s. Dizziness of the
Head. Pains in the Chest ami Side. General Debit- \
ifu, P.-f.ciencn of Nervous and Physical Energy, and j
aUNenxms Disorders. In cases of confirmed Dys
pepsia. which i=> simply a nervous derangement of
the digestive organs, they have been found equally i
successful. Their extraordinary effects upon the ■
svstciu must be witnessed tube believed, and an a j
c‘>rfain rerev five for the preceding complaints I
tiicv are equally recommended. The Rings are of j
different prices, being made of all sizes, arid of va- !
rinus ornamental patterns, and can be worn by the j
most delicate female without the slightest incou- i
venience. In fact the sensation is rather agree a- !
bie than otherwise. j
The Galvanic Uelfs, Hr ac elds, Hands, ■
Garters, Necklaces,
T.i some cases of a very severe character and of j
long standing the power as applied by the Galvanic 1
Finns is not sufficient to arrest the progress of dis
ease and ultimately to restore health. The improv
ed modification in the Galvanic Pelts, Bracelets,
A*r., entirely remedies this objection ; any degree
of power that is required can readily be obtained,
and no complaint which the mysterious agent of
Galvanism can effect will fail to be permanently re
lieved. These articles are adapted to the waist, arms,
wrists, limbs, ancles, or any part of the body with
perfect convenience. The Galvanic Necklaces, are
used with greater benefit in cases of Bronchitis or
affections of the throat generally ; also in cases of
Nervous Deafness; and with almost uniform success
as a preventive for Apoplexy, Ejri/ej-tic Fits, and
similar complaints.
CimiSTIK’S MAGNETIC FLUID.
Is issued in connection with the Galvanic Rings,
and ali their modifications. This composition has
been pronounced by the French Chemists to be
one of the most extraordinary discoveries of mod
ern science. It is believed to possess a remarkable
power of rendering the Nerves sensitive to Galvanic
action, by the e means causing a circulation of the
influence at the seat of disease, and thus giving ra
pid and permanent relief. No other composition in
chemistry is known to produce the same effect or
to impart a similar property to the nervous system
by means of an outward local application. The
Magnetic Fluid contains nothing capable of the
slightest injury, its application is agreeable, and it
is as harmless in its action as it-is beneficial in its
result. The combined inventions are in every way
perfectly harmless; they are at prices within reach
of all, and the discoverer only requests a fair trial,
a ■> a test of their surprising efficacy and permanent
benefit.
Christie’s Galvanic Strengthening Plas
ters,
These articles form another valuable application
and the mysterious influence of Galvanism. They
are too important adjuncts to the genuine Galvanic
Rings and their modifications, acting upon the
same principle, but having this advantage of more
Ural application. They are confidently recom
mended as a valuable addition in the speedy cure
of Rheumatism, acute or chronic; in all nervous
complaints, and as a positive remedy in cases of
Bain and Weakness in the Chest or Back, Pain in
the Side, Asthmatic Affections, and in Weakness
or Oppression of the Pulmonary Organs. In Spi
nal Complaints, their effects are of the most decided
character, and they have often been used with
complete success. They are also of the greatest
advantage iu Pains and Weakness of the Breast,
and are highly recommended for many of those
complaints to which females are especially liable.
As an effectual means for Strengthening the sys
tem when debilitated by disease or other causes;
a 5 ; a certain aid in Constitutional Weakness, as a
Preventive for Colds, and in all affections of the
Chest, generally, the Galvanic Strengthening Plas
ter. will be found of great and permanent advantage.
In a few words, it embraces all the virtues of the
best tonic preparation with the important addition
of the Galvanic influence, which is neither impair
ed or exhausted, while the action continues. These
articles will be found entirely free, from those ob
jections which are a constant source of complaint
with the ordinary Plasters in common use.
QffTThe great celebrity and success of these ar
ticles have caused them to be counterfeited by un
principled persons. To provide against impositions,
Dr. Christie has but one authorized agent in each

Mules operate to our entire satisfaction, producing
! yarn of a superior quality, and an increased quun

: not exceeding five cents per hundred. It is now

--i HARD, Esq. — Dear Sir- — This Company have had
! in operation of Self-Acting Mules—Sharp’s, Rob
| erts Co’s., Mason’s and Smith’s. The two for
| mcr for more than two years, and the latter for up
wards of one j r ear last past. I have kept an accu
rate account of the product, waste and cost of oper
ating each description of Mule, and the result is
decidedlj' in favor of Smith’s.
I have no hesitation in saying the Smith's Mule
will turn oft’ more work per spindle than anv other
now in use ; that it requires less trouble to keep it in
order, and may be kept in repair at less expense.
Yours, respectfully, J. A. Burleigh,
