Augusta Market. July X 4.
( OF!ON.—During ihe past week we have had
a better demand for Cotton, and since the receipt
flic l«i£t ft*f*;tiner s advices troui Liverpool, such
folders as felt disposed to sell have been vtble to ob-
Nain better prices, say | a) cent advance on those *
paid during the previous week. At the above ad
vance there are more buyers than sellers, as the
quantify of Cotton offering is still very limited. The
Miles of the week will sum tip about 100 bales, mid
dlings at aH% middling fair 1(‘:{ a 11, and fair
1 I a 1 I j cent- —our outside figures for square bales.
.\s iegartls the growing crop, the advices we
■i.ive received within the past week are very un
favorable. From all sections oft ki>.State we have
complaints of the backwardness of the crop, 'and
in- Ikul stands obtained, and the recent wet weath
er experienced has given the grass sorb a foothold,
that it will materially injure the growth and matur-
M'gof the weed. In some portions of the State our
planters have had to contend with lice and the cut
worm, in other sections with the grasshopper, and
v\ i* now hear that the boll w orm has made its ap
pearance. The above remarks arc applicable to a
greater portion oi the Colton growing region of
Georgia and Carolina, and so far as Alabama has
been heard from similar complaints are made. In
Louisiana and Mississippi, the prospects lor a crop
were good, but even in these two large Cotton
S *tates serious fears were expressed about the crop
in consequence of the backwardness of the season
and the recent wet weather extrericnced.
