rll HIS valuable preparation combines all the
9, medicinal virtues of those articles, "which long
experience has proved to possess the most safe
and efficient alterative and deobstruent properties,
or the cure oi Scrofula, King’s Evil, White Swell- \
lags, Livers, Scrofulous, Cancerous and Indolent
Tumours; Mercurial and Syphilitic Affections, Rheu

ments or of the Ovaries. Liver, Spleen, Kidneys, SfC. \

n orm, Biles, Dimples, Carbuncles, SfC., Jh/spepsia
and Liver Complaint, Nervous Diseases. Dropsical
Swellings. Constitutional Disorders and diseases ori
ginating from a depraved or Impure state of the
'Blood or other fluids of the body.
The proprietor of this Alterative would mnfl re
spectfully assure the public that he has net offered
*\iis preparation to their notice without due reflec
tion, and close and rigid study, nor until after
*weive years 7 experienet had manifested its s;reat
Superiority over every other article of the kind, —
a nd he now recommends it with confidence, fully
believing that the above combination of medicines
will effectually eradicate from the system a class
of diseases some of which have heretofore been con
sidered incurable.
He has prescribed it in almost every variety of i
diseases and with unparalleled success, especially
in cutaneous affections, cancerous, scrofulous and
scorbutic diseases, and diseases originating from
obstruction or enlargement of the, glands or impuri
ty' of the blood.
Caricer and Cancerous Tumors,
lie has used this preparation in upwards of twen- ;
ty well defined cases of cancer ami.cancerous tu- |
mors, and in every' case but one with perfect and
entire success.
Broncliocele or Goitre, (Swelled TTeck.)
He has prescribed it in over a hundred cases of
goitre. and»it has never failed in a single instance to
completely' remove the disease. Not a solitary
case of failure. All were cured.
The success he has met with in Curing hroncho
cele and cancerous affections has convinced him
that these dangerous and horrible diseases may be
removed with as much certainty as Fever and
Ague. He does not w ish to be understood as sav
ing that they can be cured as soon as Fever and
Ague, but with as much certainty; and further, that
lie has good reason for believing that this prepara
tion will not only cure these diseases when formed,
but that it destroys the virus or poisonous principle
lurking in the system, from which that peculiar
class of diseases, us well as that of scrofula emanate
Scrofula—King’s Svil.
This preparation lias been used in numerous
cases of scrofula, King’s Evil, and scrofulous swell
ings, and always with the most decided success.
Skin Diseases,
fie has prescribed it in a great variety of cutane- j
ous affections, and found it .successful in curing salt
.rheum or tetter, biles, blotches, pimples, morphew
and jaundiced skin, 6cc.
Dyspepsia and Liver Complaint.
It has been used in numerous cases of liver com
plaint and Dy spepsia, and with the happiest etlect.
Tio-Douloureux.
It has been used in several cases of Neuralgia, |
and in every case it was successful
Rheum atism.
This preparation lias been prescribed in a great \
many cases of chronic rheumatism, and in every i
case in which it was used until the system became
affected by* the medicine, the disease was removed.
Gout.
A nurfiber of cases of gout hare been cured by
this preparation. In one of these cases, the man
had been afflicted with it so severely for thirteen
years as to entirely disable him from business, and :
for five months immediately previous to bis taking |
the Alterative he had been confined to his room; i
hut before he had finished the third bottle, he was
enabled to walk about the streets and soon after re
turned to his business, from which he had, so long
been excluded by his affliction.
Dropsical Swallings.
This medicine increases the powers of digestion
excites the absorbents into healthy exercise, by !
which watery or calcareous depositions, and all un- 1
natural enlargements are reduced. It imparts
tone and vitality to the whole system, removing j
sick and morbid headaches, giddiness, wandering
pains and nervous affections.
In fact, in every case where the medicine has j
been taken for some time, no matter for what pur
pose, the general health of the patient has always
been improved by it.
In conclusion, the proprietor would say that some
of the most astonishing cases of skin diseases, can
cer, broncliocele, and scrofula, have been cured by |
this medicine, that have ever been recorded; but
want of room in this sheet precludes thek publica
tion at this time.
Cancer.
An interesting: case cured by Jayne 7 s Alterative.
In the spring of 1831, » cancerous tumor appear
ed in the ri»-ht breast of Mrs. Phoebe, wife of Peter
Stretch, of Salem N. J. It was examined bv many
ysicians, and was considered by all as cancerous,
and besides bore all the characteristic murks of
on.. All probable means of removing it were used
without the slightest benefit. It continued to in
crease both in size and painfulness, until all hope
of saving her life, but by a painful operation, was
abandoned, which, after a consultation of eminent
Physicians, was performed, Jan. Ist, 1882, by Dr. j
John Rhea Barton, assisted by Dr. Redman, the
proprietor, and two other medical gentlemen. The 1
whole and entire right breast was removed, and af
ter examination of the tumor, was pronounced by
all present a cancer of the most malignant charac
ter. In about three months, after enduring incredi
ble sufferings, she was enabled, though broken in
spirit, to get about again. She remained feeble,
and her general health was exceedingly bad. as in
deed it had been for several years before. In the
spring of 1837, upwards office years after her breast
had been removed, a painful tumor made its ap
pearance on the right side, immediately over the
part formerly occupied by the nipple of the right
breast, previous to its removal. This tumor steadi
ly increased for several months, and became so
painful as to deprive her of rest. The glands un
der the right arm were enlarged; and scirrhus, and
ahard, irregular, and at times painful tumour, ap
peared in tfie leit breast. No operation could now i
arrest the disease. Indeed her whole body* appear
td to be a mass of disease. Her case was consid
ered hopeless. She was of a very scrofulous habit,
eotb her parents having died of Pulmonary con
bumption. The experiment was now made with
shis Alterative, It was at first given in small doses,
three times a day, and tiie doses very gradually,
but steadily increased daily, as long as she took it,
which was about six months, and the skin over and
around the tumour was wet night and morning with
a strong solution of lodine and Hydriedate Potash. |
The tumour continued increasing in size for about
six weeks, and was at times very painful, when the
pain suddenly ceased altogether, and the tumour
swelled out at the base, and became soft, and then
began to diminish, and continued gradually decreas
ing until every vestige of disease was removed.—
The tumour in her left breast, and those in her
right exiila were also dispersed. No cancerous or
scrofulous tumours ever appeared afterwards; and
ber general health, which had been so bad for four
teen years as to make life a burthen, was effectu
ally and permanently restored. The proprietor is !
ia possession of the diseased breast, and those who 1
choose may examine it. He would also sav that
he could mention oyer a dozen cases equally inter
esting, wherein his Alterative has subdued cancer
and cancerous tumours, but he has not room here
to record them.
Mrs. S arah Young, of Quinton’s Bridge, N. J., had
a goitrous tunjour on the left side of her windpipe,
as large as the half of an orange, which tvas cured •
*y using this Alterative for about four months.
Miss R— S , South Fourth-street, Phila
delpnia, was a!>o cured ol an enlargement of the
throat, which filled the entire space between the
«hin and breast-boa*, and extended around on each
side of her neck to behind her ears, and from her
ears to her shoulders, and produced awful deformi
ty. It commenced growing when she was but live
•years old. and continued gradually to increase un
til she was nineteen, at which time she commenced
rising this Alterative, which she took £or seven
months, which entirely reduced tire enlargement; 1
and she has now as smooth and pretty a neck as can ,
be found. The proprietor is not at liberty to give !
her name in print, but will refer persons to her.

HOW AWFULLY CULPABLE.
TO NEGLECT USING THE GENUINE
DR. TAYLOR’S BALSAM OF LIVERWORT. !
375 Bowjeky, N. V.
MUST those be who have Pulmonary Consump
tion, or any affection of the Lungs, Liver or
i Chest, after reading the following letter, just re- j
ceived from a most respectable inhabitant of West
chester County New York.
?A3isvroivs, Aug. 9, 1844.
Dear Doctor —It is difficult to find words to ex
press the gratitude which I feel towards you for
the interest you have taken to relieve me in my
distress. In the year 1842 1 contracted a heavy
| cold, whify finally settled on my lungs; in a few
i months after, I commenced coughing and raising
offensive matter, which smelt -very bad. Having
heard that Sherman’s Lozenges were good for a
coughs 1 tried a few boxes of them, but they bad
not the least effect on me. I then called in the
j best physicians in the place, who attended me a
few months, but without success; 1 then saw an ad
vertisement in one of the city papers of Wistar’s
i Balsam of Wild Cherry, of which i purchased three
; bottles, at the corner of Fulton and Nassau streets,
but 1 could not perceive the least beneficial effect
from it, on the contrary I think it was a great in
jury to me. Shortly after using it, I commenced
raising blood in large quantities; I was taken down
sick and confined to the house for three months,
during which time I lost my appetite and fell away
very fast; I was then induced te consult Dr. Curtis
of New York, (one of the best physicians in the
f city,) but he could do me no good. 1 again became
worse, and was confined to tlie house all last winter
j and spring, and 1 gave up ail hope of ever getting
any better, as I again raised blood and my cough
was very severe, together with a pain in my
breast and under the shoulder blade. My friends I
now gave up all hope of my recovering, and thought
j every dav was the last. About this time I heard I
of your BALSAM OF LIVERWORT being good
\ for consumption, but I was like many others, and
was fearful that it might be a regular humbug; I
however finally consented to try it, as I thought it
could make me no worse. My brother then pur_ 1
j chsed a bottle of it at 375 Bowery, N. Y., and
j commenced taking it, and by the time I had used
: one bottle full I could sleep all night, and in the j
morning I had an appetite for my breakfast. * I still !
keep on taking it and find great benefit from it—the
pain in my breast is entirely gone, and I raise no
more blood. Within the last two months I have
gained in weight six pounds and much in strength.
I would therefore, advise all who have any affec
tion of the Lungs or Liver to try the Genuine Dr,
Taylor’s Balsam of Liverwort, for I truly believe
I it to he the best remedy in existence for diseases
! of the Lungs or Liver. Should any one doubt the
above statement relative to 3’our valuable medicine,
let him call on me, and I will convince him of its
virtues. Yours, respectfully, DE REVERE.

GALVANIC RINGS AND
Magnetic Fluid.
i riYHIS remarkable invention, which has received
JL the almost universal approbation of the Medi
cal Profession ol Great Britain, comprises an en
! tirely new application of Galvanism, as a remedial
I agent, by means ol which the ordinary Galvanic
Batteries, Electric and Magnetic Machines, Ac.,
are entirely dispensed with, and the mysterious
powers of Galvanism applied without any of the
objections which are inseparable from the general
mode now in use. The strong doses, and at irreg
ular intervals, in which Galvanism is applied bv the
| Machines, has been pronounced after a fair and im
j partial trial, to be decidedly injurious, and it was to
remedy this radical defect, that this new applica
, tiou was projected, which after unceasing toil and
j perseverance has been brought to its present state
of perfection. 'I he Galvanic Kings answer ail the
purposes of the most expensive Machines, and in
many other respects are more safe and certain in
-accomplishing the desired effect.
I he Galvanic Kings, used in connection with the
Magnetic Fluid, are confidently recommended in
all disorders which aiise from an enfeebled or un
healthy stale of the nervous or vital system, and those
complaints are among the most painful and univer
sal to which we are subject. They arise, without
exception, to one single cause—a derangement of
the Nervous system—and it was in these cases that
other “remedies” having so often failed, a new
agent was greatly needed, which it is confidently
believed, has been found in the proper and judi
cious application of Galvanism,
j The Galvanic Rings have been used with entire
success in all cases of Rheumatism , acute or chronic,
applying to the head, face or limbs: Gout, Tic
i Doloreux, Toothache, Bronchitis , Vertigo, Nervous
\ or Sick Headache, Indigestion, Paralyses, Palsy,
j Epilepsy, Fits, Cramp, Palpitation erf the Heart, Ap
i pople.ru, Stiffness of Joints, Spinal Complaints, Lum
bago, Neuralgia , A errors Tremors, Dizziness of the
Head. Pains in the Chest and Side, General Debil
ity. Deficiency of Nervous and Physical Energy, and
all Nervous Disorders. In cases of confirmed Dys
pepsia, which is simply a nervous derangement of
the digestive organs, they have been found equally
successful. Their extraordinary effects upon the
system must be witnessed to be believed, and as a
certain Preventive for the preceding complaints
they are equally recommended. The Rings are of
different prices, being made of all sizes, and of va
rious ornamental patterns, and can be worn by the
most delicate female without the slightest incon
venience. In fact the sensation is rather-agreea
ble than otherwise.
The Galvanic Belt:*, Bracelets, Bauds,
Gaiters, Necklaces, Ac.
; In some cases of a very severe character and of
long standing the power as applied by the Galvanic
| Rings K not sufficient to arrest the progress of dis
i ease and ultimately to restore health. The improv
ed modification in -the Galvanic Belts, Bracelets.
\ Sfc., entirely fens>.die T s this objection ; any degree
ot power shat is required can .readily be obtained,
and no coinplamt. which the mysterious agent of
Galvanism can effect will fail to be permanently re
lieved. These articles are adapted to the wadist, arms,
wrists, limbs, uncles, or any part of the body with
perfect convenience. The Galvanic Necklaces, are
j used with greater benefit in castes of Bronchitis or
I affections of the throat generally; also in cases of
j Nervous D dfnCss ; and with almost uniform success
j as a preventive for Apoplexy, Epileptic Fits, and

Is issued in connection with the Galvanic Rings,
1 and all their modifications. .This composition has
been pronounced by the French Chemists to be
one of the most extraordinary discoveries of mod
ern science. It is believed to possess a remarkable
power of rendering the Nerves sensitive to Galvanic i
action, by these means causing a circulation of the i
influence at the seat of disease, and thus giving ra
pid ffnd permanent relief. No otlier composition in
chemistry is known to produce the same effect or
to impart a similar property to the nervous system :
; by means of an outward local application. The |
Magnetic Fluid contains nothing capable of the \
slightest injury, its application is agreeable, and it
i is as harmless in its action as it is beneficial in its
result. The combined inventions are in every way
j perfectly harmless ; they are at prices within reach
j of all, and the discoverer only requests a fair trial,
! as a test of their surprising efficacy and permanent i
I benefit.

Christie’s Galvanic Strengthening Plas
ters.
These articles form another valuable application
and the m\ sterious influence of Galvanism. They
are too important adjuncts to Hie genuine Galvanic
Rings and their modifications, acting upon the
same principle, but having this advantage of more
local application. They are confidently reccm
| mended as a valuable addition in the speedy cure
of Rheumatism, acute or chronic; in all nervous
complaints, and as a positive remedy in cases of
Pain and Weakness in the Chest or Back, Pain in
the Side. Asthmatic Affections, and in Weakness
or Oppression of the Pulmonary Organs. In .Spi
nal Complaints, their effects are of the most decided
character, and they have often been used with
complete success. They are also of the greatest
advantage in Pains and Weakness of the Breast,
and arc highly recommended for many of those
complaints to which females are especially liable, j
i As an effectual means for Strengthening the sys- j
tem when debilitated by disease or other causes;
as a certain aid in Constitutional Weakness, as a
Preventive for Colds, and in all affections of the i
Chest, generally, the Galvanic Strengthening Plas
| ter, will be found of great and permanent advantage.
In a few words, it embraces all the virtues of the
j best tonic preparation with the important addition
of the Galvanic influence, which is neither impair
ed or exhausted, while the action continues. These
articles will be found entirely free from those ob
jections which are a constant source of complaint
with the ordinary Plasters in common use.
UpThe great celebrity and success of these ar
j tides have caused them to be counterfeited by un
; principled persons. To provide against impositions.,
Dr. Christie has but one authorized agent in each
city of the Union. The only Agency in Augusta, i
i Geo., is at the Store of
HAVILAND, RIS LEY A CO., Druggists.
All articles of the kind sold elsewhere, are worth

]N offering this valuable medicine to the people
. of Georgia, for the relief and cure of many dis
eases incident to a Southern climate, I do not claim
for it infallibility} neither do I say it will cure all |
diseases. But in Chronic Liver Affections and
Dyspepsia, I can confidently advise and recom
mend its use, from my personal observation and use
of the article in my own practice. This article is
favorably received wherever it lias been used. I

be added, who bear their testimony to its value.—
Dr. Henry-Branham has used this medicine in his
own case, and has. prescribed it to many others, !
gives it as his opinion, that it is one of the safest j
and most valuable medicines that can be used in
imperfect digestion, livgr constipation
and irregular slate of the bowels If is useful in

VEGETABLE UNIVERSAL PI I I S.
THE startling drawback on nearly all Medicinal
Agents has ever been that in their process of pur- i
gation and purification, they have also- 'Debilitated i
the System. Hence Purgative Medicines have al
ways been regarded as at best hut a Necesscrn/
Evil; Patients resorting to them for the relief of
07te disease at the expense of another. To obviate !
this, Physicians have long sought for an Agent that
would at the same time
PURGE PURIFY AND STRENGTHEN.
But their efforts were nearly fruitless, and they
had almost despaired of success when the labors ot
science and research, were rewarded by a discov
ery which fully realized the fondest desires of the
Medical Faculty, and which is justly regarded as
one of the most important Triumphs that Pharmacy
has ever achieved. This important desideratum is
named
Dr. Le Hoy’s Vegetable Universal Pills.
Which Purify the I Hood, and remove all corrupt
and vitiated humors, and unhealth y a ecu m u/nfions from i
the body in a manner never before rivalled, and
j which yet produce no weakness or lassitude what
ever, but on the contrary, tone the Stomach, and
invigorate the constitution during the progress of i
their operation. Dr. Le Roy’s Pills, in fact, unite
those heretofore irreconcilable, hut most desirable 1
qualities, Evacuation and Invisroration. for they are
at the same time a STRENGTHENING PURGA- i
t TT YE, AND A PURIFYING TONIC.
The two paincipal ingredients in Dr. Le Roy’s
j Pills are
W.LU CHERRY & SARSAPARILLA.
So prepared that each promotes the beneficial ef
fect of the other, the former strengthening, while
the latter, through its union with various vegetable
ingredients, evacuates and purities', thus they su
perinduce no torpidity or lassitude of the the Diges
tive Functions, and lienee their operations are at
tended by no Re-action or Subsequent Costiveness.
Dr. Le Roy’s Pills tire the most active and search
ing Medicine in existence. They at once attack
the very root of Diseases, and their action is so
prompt that in an hour or two after they are taken,
the patient is aware of their good effects. They
not only operate on the Blood, but also on the chyle. |
of which the Blood is formed, and this secures good
blood from the fountain head, moreover, they pro
duce neither nausea, griping or debility, and as a
family medicine they have no rival. Price 2o cts,
per box.
