CItOCERIES.—Our merchants have done another
pocjil week’s business in the Grocer} 7 line, and continue
to si pply a number of our country friends, on their re
turfs from tiie North, with th.eir stuck of Groceries.
The ire is no scarcity of any article that we know of, and
daily accessions are made to the stocks on hand by arri
vals from below.
DRY GOODS.—The business in this line is also 5m- ,
proving, several of our houses having made large addi- ;
tiunjc to the ir stm’ks, to meet the demands upon them. ,
By Che time the spring trade sets in, we hope such ar
rangements will be made* by our Dry Goods deal ts, that !
they, as well as our grocers, will be able to supply the |
waj ts of all who visit Augusta for a market.
IfhOUß.—The market is well supplied with Country
Flo.tr, in bags and barrels. There is not much demand
for it at present, and the best qualities win not bring
ovrj* 85 as’ per bbl. by the quantity. There is a visible
fin, rovement in the milling and barrelling of this arliele, 1
and wft yesterday saw a lot from E. McConnell’s Mills,
Cherokee county, which, for neatness of package, would
compare with any Canal Flour.
BACON—Continues scarce, and a lot of good would
rcae ily bring onr quotations.
C’i >RN.—There is a i'ftle mure enquiry for this arti- i
cle, which is scarce. We have no sales to report this
weak, but would remark, a lot in bags would bring
quotations, 50 a 55 cents.
RAGGING AND ROPE.—We have in Augusta, we
believe, a larger stock of Kentucky Ragging than is held
In either Charleston or Savannah, but it is in the hands
of n few. We understand a sale was made this week
of some 1400 pieces, hut could not learn the price. Our
Merchants arc supplying a large extent of country with
this article; as one of them remarked to ns yesterday,
fronji Columbia, P. G., m GrfTin, On. The supply of
Bald Rope is still limited, and a lot of Kentucky, if put
on the market, would readily bring 9 cents.
SALT.—This article is also scarce, and prices have an
upward tendency. Sacks arc retailing from stores at
$1,75, but we do not believe a lot could be purchased at j
this price. The same may he said of loose salt, which
retails from stores at 45 a 59 cents per bushel.
EXCHANGE.—Our banks are selling sight checks on
New York at \ per cent. pram.
THE RIVER.—Ts getting low, and if we are not
shortly visited with a rain, will be too low for steam
ers to reach the wharves. At the present time it is high
enough to enable thorn to discharge their cargoes at the
wharf. There is a little more down freight offering
We have no change to notice in the rates to Charleston
or Savannah.

ED to cure the worst forms of Fever and Ague.
The money will be refunded in all cases if they
fail to cure —hut they never do fail.
A STRONG EVIDENCE that DR. JAYNE S
EXPECTORANT is superior to all other reme
dies for Coughs, Consumption, Bronehites. Asthma.
and other Pulmonary affections, is, that the same
persons who commenced the use of it in their
families ten years ago, still perfer it to ail other
remedies of the kind; and where any have been
induced to try other preparations, they have al
most invariably been disappointed in receiving the
benefit which was reasonably anticipated from the
high praises bestowed by the proprietors, and have
j returned to the use JAYNE’S EXPECTORANT,
j as a remedy that never has failed to relieve them,
and which probably never had its equal in arrest
ing Pulmonary disea-es.

Wistars Balsa of Wjldsn Cherry-
There are so many‘‘certain cures” for cought.
c lis and even consumptions, that we arc sometimes
disposed U. question the efficacy of any of them.
Mr S. W. Fowle, a druggist of the highest repu
tation,at 13d Washington rSt , has the agency of an
article called Balsam of Wild Cherry, which seems
to have won for itself a good reputation wherever
it has been introduced. We have seen letters from
| various parts of \c w England, from persons of the
; highest standing in the place where they reside
heating testimony to live beue.it themselves cr
friends had received from a trial of its properties.
Extract from a letter dated Petersburg, Va., Jan, !

A gentleman of unquestionable veracity informs
| us that his brother had been confined to his bed for
weeks with some species of cough that baffled the
; skill of several eminent physicians, and by the u-e
o two bottles of WIS PAR’S BALSAM OF WILD
CIURRI, he has b jen restored to perfect hea th,

It not unfrequentiy happens that sick persons
j denounce excellent medical preparations without
giving them a fair opportunity of exhibiting their
effects. Sometimes the invalid doe? not take the
medicine long enough; sometimes is imprudent

ias assistants in the restoration of health. We do
not desire any one to believe that .Sand’s Sarsapa

i must be taken to avoid hearty and exciting food or
liquids, or improper exposure. If these conditions
be observed, wa believe there are few scrofulous
cases that will not yield to the remedy.
