CHARLESTON IMPORTS—OCTOBER 20.

Salt and a quantity of Fruit, to B. S. Illicit.
N EW-ORLK A.NS, October 10.— Cotton —> Ar
rived since the 12th inst. 13,326 bales. Cleared in
the same time 2918 bales —making an addition to
s.ock of 10,108 bales, and leaving on hand, inclusive
of all on shipboard not cleared on the 15th inst., a
stock of 58,z31 hales.
Our last report left the Cotton market in a very
depressed state, the full accounts by the steamer
Hibernia having been received during the day,
which had brought operations nearly] to a stand,
and so completely confused and unsettled the mar
ket that we were wholly unable to arrange a scale
of figures showing accurately the decline in prices,
and therefore omitted our quotations altogether.
The character of the private letters from Liverpool
was even more unfavorable than that of the printed
accounts, prices at the close being quoted much
lower, and the slate of the money market in the
highest degree unpromising. Under these cir
cumstances our market opened on Wednesday
without much spirit, though as some buyers came |
forward, and factors seemed inclined to meet the !
reduced offers made them, about 2000 bales were
taken, generally at a further decline of | a h cent
on the rates of Tuesday. As the limited transact
tions and large receipts since the opening of the
week had by this time caused a considerable accu
mulation of stock in the hands of factors, they were
still disposed to meet buyers freely, even at the re
duction referred to, which led to sales on Thurs
day 0f2300 bales, a considerable portion ol which
was for French account. Yesterday there was
again a good inquiry, and 3 100 bales changed hands,
making the business of the three days, 8200 bales,
and ol the week 11,500 bales, taken chiefly for
England, France and the North. The receipts
since Sept. 1, are 72,679 bales, against 12,058 bales
to the same period last season, and 111,326 the
year jircvious.
In reference to prices, we would observe that
they are still somewhat irregular, but that the
principal transactions show a further falling oft"
cent, leaving the total decline, since the re
ceipt of the steamer’s accounts, \ of a cent per lb.,
and we have reduced our figures accordingly. At
this reduction the market has assumed more steadi
ness, though such is the difficulty experienced in
passing bills of exchange, that buyers are necessa
rily much restricted in their operations. The sup
ply on the market has consisted chiefly of the mid
dling grades, as very little Cotton classing as Infe
rior has yet been received, and for the few parcels
n( Good and Fine on hand, there is no demand at
t he rates asked.

NEW A ORK, Oct. 13, f», P. M.—The market for
breadstuff’s has been in quite an unsettled state to
day, our merchants being in momentary expecta
tion of late news from Europe* either by the French
steamer Missouri, which is more than due at this
port, or by the Cambria at Boston, which has now
been fourteen days out. Up to the present hour,
howevor. neither of them have been telegraphed. I
Notwithstanding the anxiety for news the cast- I
cm demand for Flour continued to give some ac- (
iivity to the market. About 10,000 bbls.were sold j
in the course of the day of Genesee, Western, and j
Oswego, at $6.50, and 6.75. There is still a
great scarcity of Eastern vessels. Small sales of
Howard street Flour were made at $6,62A.
( olton is still in favor of the buyer, but opera- :
tors are waiting for the steamer’s news. About I
,500 bales were sold to-day.
M ACON, Oct. ID.— Cotton. —The Cotton Market !
was in a very quset state at the date of our last !
weekly report, and wo arc sorry that wc cannot to |
day announce any improvement. The business of |
the past week has been without any spirit, and !
sales have been very small. The receipts have
been fair for the season; mostly stored on Planters’
account. We quote to-day a9.

"MOUNT EAGLE TRIPOLI
4 REMARKABLE mineral, pronounced by

The article is excellent for burnishing and clean
