OBITUARY.
Died,in Milledgeville on Saturday the 3th inst ,
, cf Typhoid Pneumonia, Mr. John M. Patton,
son of Dr. Robert 11. Patton, ol Cassville. and Se
i cretary in the Executive Department of Georgia
—aged 20 years, 9 months and 10 days.
O Death ! why dost thou choose
The best, the warmest friend..
But a few weeks since our young friend and
fellow citizen was with us in the enjoyment of
health, and in the full vigor of youth, lie had for
a long time been a resident of our village, and such
was his deportment even from childhood, that !
j whether viewed as the scheolboy, the son, the
brother, tbe friend, the Christian, lie was ever th c
; same kind, unassuming, affectionate and noble
youth. Having been appointed by Gov. Towns,
! one of his Secretaries in the Department of State.the
: opening of the late session of our State Legislature
found him in Milledgeville, where he entered upon
the duties assigned him, and though inexperienced
and the youngest in the department, ho soon be
came the favorite of the Executive and the one
on whom principal reliance was placed: but scarce
ly had the Legislature adjourned, and before he
had yet time to enjoy the partial abatement, of his
arduous duties, when he was attacked with dis
ease, and after a weeks illness, the ruthless mes
senger claimed him as bis own.
Blooming in youthful! vigor when he left us, the
intelligence of his death to ourcommunity was as un
j expected as it was unwelcome; and the arrival of
! h's remains m our village, produced an unusual
degree of feeling. Because of his many estimable
qualities, and the strong hold he had upon the af
fections of the people, his death is regarded with
j the deepest regret even by bis most distant ac
: quaintanccs, and to hit kind parents ana relatives,
! it i* iudesd a sad and heartrening bereavement.
He was just entering the broad arena of honorable
! tile and his iriends were divining for him a distin
i guished success—his energy—his unsullied charac
ter, his liuilit.de ambition, and his .-triet, moral, and
genlemanly deportment, bis high mental sagacitv
i were the indications upon which they had founded
his hope—but
"Let no one fondly dream again,
That Hope and all her shadowy train
May rot decay;
Fleeting as were the dreams that’s told,
Remembered like a talc cl old.
They pass away.”
, | Mr. Patton is no more! Blighted hones and the
! severest grief are the results of the departure.—
i But it should not be so. The afflictions of provi
dence. though seeming severe, are designed fur
good; and his kindred and his friends, in reflecting
! upon his many virtues, have ample ground lor
! comfort, in the assurance that his noble spirit has
, been elevated from all that is excellent on earth,to
j sublimer and hapier excellence, in the realms of
a glorious immortality.— Cassville Pioneer.

GENERAL NERVOUS DERANGE
MENTS.
Nx w k urK, Nov. 1, 1847.
To Dr. A. H. Christii :
,4 CCORDING to my promise, I address you
.dIL and with feeling* of sincere gratitude. For
six years I have been a sufferer, and 1 believe
i none could have suffered more. Mv disease was ;
! a complication of complaints, brought on by r-xer- I
[ tions to support my family, being often obliged to '
j work at the needle for twenty hours out of the
, ! twenty-four. 1 was alllicted with distress in the
I head; my sight was im aired, and a general weak
j ness seemed to prostrate ray entire faculties. 1
was under the care ot Ur. Stillwell, No, 13 Sul
S foli-et. and several other physicians, for a long
time, but my case was so stubborn that it baffled
tb« skill of every physician I tried. My nervous
excitement was such that the slightest noise would
' sometimes throw me into convulsions, Sometimes
’ I could not close my eyes during the night, and
would walk the room half the time. For over a
: year 1 was so deaf that I could scarcely hear anv
j on* speak. My life has been constantly despaired
’ of, and I often wished death to relieve mv suffer
' ings. Such i* a feeble statement of ray situation
’ ! last June, when I first heard of your Galvanic
j Belt and Magnetic Fluid. On stating mv case, you
j liberally presented me with the articles. I have
worn them ever since, and the result is. that I
5 HAVE COMPLETELY RECOVERED MY
E HEALTH, MY STRENGTH, A.XD MY
SPIRITS. My friends, my physician and myself,
are confident that it is owin ■ solely to the use of
your wonderful Belt and Fluid that this happy re
sult has come to pass, and 1 shall ever gratefully
acknowledge it, and am now. and will be at all
t ; times, ready to stale any f; r.her particulars, or to
. j satisfy the public that my assertions are true in
, every respect. Mrs, LAURA JOHNSON,
13 Essex-st. New York City.
