PATENT MEDICINES.
DR. CHRISTIE’S
GALVANIC RINGS
AND
MAG N E TIC FL U 11> ,
remarkable it) veil tion, which ha# received the
almost universal approbation of the medical pro
-1 session of Great Britain, comprise# an entirely new ap
! plication of Galvanism, as a remedial agent, by means of
which the ordinary Galvanic Batteries, Electric and Mag
netic Machines,&c., are entirely dispensed w ith, and the
mysterious powers of Galvanism applied w ithout any
{ of the objections which are iuseperable from the genc
! rat mode now in use. The strong doses, and at irregu
lar intervals, in whicli Galvanism is applied by the Ma
chines, has been pronounced, af.er a fair and impartial
trial, to be decidedly - injurious, and it was to remedy
this radical defect, that this new application was pro
: jetted, which after unceasing toil and perseverance, has
been brought to its present slate of perlection. The
Galvanic Kings answer all the purposes of the most
expensive Machines, and in many other respects are
more safe and certain in accomplishing the desired
effect.
The Galvanic Rings, used in connection with the
Magnetic Fluid, are confidently recommended in all
D SOKDEKS WHICH ARISE FROM AN ENFEEBLED OR UN
HEATHY' STATE OF THE NERVOUS OR VITAL SYSTEM, and
these complaints are among the most painful and uni
versal to whicli we are subject. They arise, withoutex
ceptiou, from one simple cause—a derangement of the
Nervous system—and it was in these cases that other
“ remedies” having so often failed, a new agent was
greatly needed, which it is confidently believed, bus
been found in the proper and judicious application of
Galvanism.
The Galvanic Rings have been used with entire suc
cess in all cases of Rheumatism, acute or chronic, ap
; plying to the head, face or limbs : Gout, Tic-Doloreux,
Toothache, Bronchitis, Vertigo, Nervous ok Sick
Headache, Indigestion, Paralyses, Palsv, Epilepsy,
i Fits, Cramp, Palpitation ok the Heart, Appoplexy,
Stiffness i f Joints, Spinal Complaints, Kumbago,
Neuralgia, Nervous Tremors, Dizziness of the
Head, Pains in the Chest andStde. General Debili
i tv, Deficiency of Nervous and Physical Energy,
i and all Nervous Disorders. In cases of confirmed
Dyspepsia, whicli is simply a nervous derangement of
the digestive organs, they have been found equally suc
! eessfni. Their extraordinary effects upon the system
must be witnessed to be believed, and as a certain pre
ventive for tbe preceding complaints iliey are equal
ly recommended. Tbe Rings are of different prices,
being made of all sizes, and of various ornamental pat
terns, and can be worn by the mostdelicute female without
| the slightest inconvenience. In fact the sensation is
rather agreeable than otherwise.
The Galvanic Kelts, Bracelets, Bands,
Garters, Necklaces, Arc.
In some cases of a very severe character and of long
standing, the power ns applied by the Galvanic Rings
is not sufficient to arrest the progress of disease and ulti
mately to restore health. The improved modification in
the Galvan c Belts, Bracelets, <fec., entirely renie
| dies this objection ; any degree of power that is required
can readily be obtained, and no complaint which the
mysterious agent of Galvanism can effect will fail to he
permanently rclieved. These articles are adapted to the
waist, arms, w rists, limbs, uncles or any part of ihe body
i with perfect convenience. The Galvanic Necklaces
: are used with greater benefit in cases of Bronchitis or
affection# of the throat generally ; also in cases of Ner
vous Deafness; and with almost uniform success as a
preventive for Apoplexy, Epileptic Fits, and similar
complaints.
Christie’s Magnetic Fluid.
Is issued in connection with the Galvanic Rings, and
all their modifications. This composition has been pro
; non need by the French Chemists to be one of the most
extraordinary discoveries of modern science. It is ,be
-1 ieved to possess a remarkable power of kenderhig the
Nerves seiisitive toGalvauic actioii, by these means
causing a circulation of the influence at the seat of dis
ease, and thus giving rapid and permanent relief. No
other composition in chemistry is known to produce the
same effector to impart a similar property to the nervous
system by means of an outward local application. The
Maguetic Fluid contains notliiiigcupaide of the slight
est injury, its application is agreeable, and it is harmless
in its action as it is beneficial in its result. Full explana
tions and directions accompany it. Tlit combined in
ventions are in every way perfectly harmless; they arc
at prices within reach of all, and the discoverer only re
quests a fair trial, 7is a lest of their -..urprising efficacy
and permanent benefit.
Christie’s Galvanic Strengthening Plas
leis.
These articles form another valuable application of
the mysterious influence of Galvanism. They are an
important adjunct to the genuine Galvaiiic Rincsaud
their modifications, acting upon the same principle, but
having this advantage of more local application. 'Jfliey
are confidently recommended as a valuable addition in
the speedy cure of Rheumatism, acute or chronic ; iu
all nervous complaints, and as a positive remedy in cases
of Fain and Weakness in the Chest or Back, Pain in she
Side, in Asthmatic Affections, and in Weakness or Op
pression of flic Pulmonary Organs. In Spinal Com
plaints; their effects arc of the most decided character,
and they have often been used with complete success.
They are also of the greatest advantage in Pains and
Weakness of the Breast, and arc highly recommended
for many of those complaints to which females are j
especially liable. As an effectual means for strengthen- j
ing the system when debilitated with disease or other
causes ; as a certain aid in Constitutional Weakness, as a
Preventive for Colds and in all affections of the Chest !
generally the Galvanic Strengthening Plaster will be
found of great and perinaiieiiiad vantage. 1 n a few words,
it embraces all the virtues of the best tonic preparation
with tbe important addition of the Galvanic influence,
which is neither impaired or exhausted, whilethe action
continues. These articles will be found entirely free
from those objections which area constant source of com
plaint with the ordinary Plasters in common use.
HTTlic great celebrity and success of these articles,
have caused them tube counterfeited by unprincipled
persons. To provide against imposition, Dr. Christie
lias but one authorized agent iu each city of the Union.

II O W AV» FUL L Y CU L FABLE,
TO NEGLECT USING THE GENUINE
DR. TAYLOR’S BALSAM OF LIVERWORT.
375 Bowery, N. Y.
Must those be who have Pulmonary Consumption,
or any affection of the Lung#, Liver or Chest,
after reading ihe following letter, just received from a
in, si respectable inhabitant of Westchester County
New York. •
Tarrvtown, Aug. 9, 1844.
! Dear Doctor—lt is difficult to find words to express the
gratitude which 1 feel towards you for the interest you
I have taken to relieve me iu my distress. In the 3 - ear
li'42 I contracted a heavy cold, which finally settled on
my lungs; in a few months after 1 commenced coughing
and raising offensive matter, which smelt very bail.
Having heard that Sherman’s Lozenges were good for a
! cough I tried a few boxes of them, but they had not the
least effect on me. I then called in the best physician in the
place, who a! tended me a few months, but without sue
cess ; 1 then saw an advertisement in one of the city
papersof Wistar’s Balsam of Wild Cherry, of which I
purchased three bottles, at thecot ner of Fulton and Nas
sau streets, but I could not perceive the least beneficial
effect from it, on the contrary I think it was a gr.-at in
jury to me. Shortly after using it 1 commenced raising
blood in large quantities ; I was taken down sick and
confined to the house for three months, during which
time 1 lost my appetite and fell away very fast; 1 was
then induced to consult Dr. Curtis of New York, (one of
the best physicians in the city,) but he could do me no
good. I again become worse, and was confined to the
; house all last winter and spring, and I gave up ail hope of
ever getting any better, as I again raised blood and my
cough was very severe, together with a pain in my breast
i and under the shoulder blade. My friends now gave up
all hope of my recovering, and thought every day was
the last. About this time I heard of your BALSAM OF
LIVERWORT being good for consumption , but I was !
like many others, and was fearful that it might bea regu
lar humbug; 1 however finally conseuted to try it, as I
thought it could make me no worse. My brother th> n
purchased a hurtle of it at 275 Bowery, N. V.. and I com- i
nieuced taking it, and by the time I hail used one bottle ;
i full I could sleep all night, and in the morning I hail an
appetite for my breakfast. 1 still keep on taking it and
find great benefit from it—the pain in my breast is entire
ly gone, ami I raise no more blood. Within the last two \
months I have gained in weight six pounds and much in
strength. 1 would therefore advise all who have any
atfec ion of the Lungs or Liver to try the Genuine Dr. j
Taylor’s Balsam of Liverwort, for I truly believe it to
betlie best remedy iu existence for diseases of the I.tings
or Liver. Should any one doubt she above statement re
lative to your valuable medicine, let him call on me, and
I will convince them of its virtue.
Yours respectfully, C. DE REVERE.

of not creating acidity of the Stomach, which the sac

for any length of time, with increased benefit.

PROGRESSIVE j’OWERjCOTTON
THIS Machine is now offered to the public as
the most durable, the most convenient , tho
most powerful, (and all things considered,) th*
5 cheapest and best Cation Packing Press in tho
( World.
This Press has now hern in use lour year*—sev
eral hundreds of them are in successful operation.
in one that has been in use about two years,
tlie re has l)een pitched, over five thousand Bales of
Cotton ! and it works better (if possible) now, than
j when first put up. Nut one dollar has been e*
pended on it in repairs—nor ever will be, if well
used.
All those persons who have tried them, have de
cided to keep them their life time, ami then band
them down to their children to the third and fourth
generations. Not an individual that has seen them
in use but what pronounces them "just the thing.’*
I challenge the world to disprove these state
ments. Now, can as much lie said of any other
Machine ever made? And yet Igo still further;
when required, 1 will pump the Press on the plan
tation, and if it dues not answer the purpose, will
make no charge.
And again—being well aware that the planters
have but little confidence in new things, from the
fact that nine out of ten are “ Yankee tricks,” in
tended to deceive, 1 have been to the trouble and
expense to fit up an establishment in Macon, with
several Presses, for re-packing Round Hales into
Square, and to show to the planters that the Press is
just the thing they want. These Presses are no if,
and will be kept in daily use, and ojien to inspec
tion. Now, therefore, to induce the planter to
make an examination, 1 give below a certificate,
signed by a. few of the many who have very kindly
offered me their names, since 1 started my Presses
in Macon.
To prevent bad work, and all sort of meddling
or tampering with the Machines, 1 have them all
made under my own direction, and sold at one price.
All those wishing to give them a trial, will please
give their names to my Agents who call U(>onlheni,
or send them to the Commission House, where
they wish to go for the Machine, in order lhat the
Agent may be prepared for them, otherwise they
may he delayed in getting a Machine when it is
wanted.

LIVER AND DYSPEPTIC
MEDICINE.
IN offering this valuable medicine to the people
of Georgia, for the relief and cure of many dis
eases incident to a southern climate, I do not claim
! for it infalihility; neither do 1 say it will cure ail
diseases. But in Chronic Liver Affections and Dys
pepsia, I can confidently advise and recommend iu
use, from my personal observation and use of the
article in my own practice. This article is favora
bly received wherever it has been used. lam al
lowed to refer to Mr. George Heard of Troup, Mr.
John Warren of Columbus, Mr. McKaffee of Cobb,
Mr. Asbnry Hull of Athens, Mr. William D. Ter
rell of Putnam, Rev. John E. Dawson of Lagrange;
to which a great number of names might be added,
who bear their testimony to its value. Dr. Henry
Branham has used this medicine in his own case,
and has prescribed it to many others, gives it as his
opinion, that it is one of the safest and most valua
ble medicines that can be used in imperfect diges
tion, liver complaints, constipation and irregular
state of the bowels. It is useful in bilious com
; plaints, to persons recovering from bilious fevers,
and in sick or nervous head-ache. To pregnant
women, who are subject to costiveness, this medi
cine is well suited. In regulating the state of the
stomach and bowels, and promoting digestion, it is
particularly useful.
I could append a long list of certificates, but for
bear, prefering to rely on the virtues of the medi
cine to sustain itself. The medicine is a gentla
and certain cathartic, tonic and sudorific.
