Saturday night, Oct. 17th.
< 01 TON.—There lias been more animation in
the market to-day, than was experienced for
several days past. Fine Cottons, which were
much sought after, brought full prices, say 9©9|c.

duction of i(a)ic. on qualities below fair, which
we noticed in our report of yesterday’s transac

MACON, Oct. 15— Cotton. —The market du
ring the week has been well sustained, and the
same increased prices consequent upon the favora

to rule. Buyers take hold with avidity, and the
article goes freely atour quotations, say 8i a 94 cts.
— Messenger.

against4,2l3 bales Upland and 382 idea Islands
at same time last year.
The market at the close of our last report was ac
! live, and the small quantity forsale.with the favora
j ble character of the news from Liverpool and New
! York, enabled holders to realise improving prices.
During the past week the demand lias continued,
and prices have been constantly tending upwards,
the improvement being fully 4 a 4c. per ID. The
market is now all of J a 14c. per lb. higher than
on the Ist inst. By reference to our tables, it will
| be observed that the receipts have considerably
| increased by Rail Road, and a slight swell in the
river Imsalso added a small quantity from Augusta.
The present high prices will, without doubt, cause
: the planter to hurry his crop to market as rapidly
; as possible. It is still somewhat difficult to give
accurate quotations, but as the market has appear
ed more steady for the last day or two, we append
the following, which conform as near as possible
to the transactions of yesterday:
Middling 94 (©94
Middling fair 94©91
Fair and fully fair 94©10
The inside figures are for round bales, which
are about 4c. per lb. lower than the same quality
in square packages.
The sales of the week amount to 1,417 hales as
follows : 26at 84; 27 at 84; 36 at 9; 12 at 94; 186 at

Freights. —The increasing receipts of Cotton
have given a liule more activity. The ship Scot
land for Liverpool has about 1,000 bales engaged
at 7-16 per lb. for square, and id for round bales,
i Coastwise rales remain without change, say for
N. York 4c. per lb. for square and 5-l6c. per lb.
for round bales, and for Boston, a ship was taken
yesterday, full cargo, round and square bales Cot
ton, at 7-16 c. per lb. For Philadelphia, last en
| gageinents I tor square and 7-16 c. per lb. lor round
! bales Cotton.
CHARLESTON, Oct. 17. Colton. —ln our re
port of the lOih inst., we slated that the Upland
market at the close of the week was not only de
! cidedly heavy, but added that the article had been
purchased on easier terms, than just after the ar
rival of the Hibernia’s advices, dime that pe
riod there has been no decided change in the gen
eral features of the market, although it has from
day to day exhibited symptoms of increased langur
until towards the close of the week, purchasers
were demanding a positive reduction on the quota
; tat ions of Saturday last, hut holders would not
generally submit to their views, although there
| were instances in which a slight advantage was
' obtained; under present circumstances, however,
i we think it proper to continue our former quota
| lions, and would again refer to them as a fair cri
j teriou of prices at the cKrse of business. The sales
have been confined mostly to the better grades.—
The receipts of the week reach 7443 bales, against
the sales in the same time of 3754 hales, as fol
lows: 5 a 8; 2 at 84; 4 at 84; 92 at 84; 49 at 8J;
291 at 9; 25 at 94; 323 at 94; 181 at9|; 127 at 9 7-16;
1420 at 94; 232 at 9 9-16; 629 at 94; 302 at 94; 17
at 94; and a lot on terms not made public.
Rice. — I pwards of 1700 tierces have passed
' into second hands, at about the prices of tiie pre
i vious week.
Flour. —The transactions of the week have been
| rather light, and confined to small parcels fur
i city consumption. Prices tending downwards.
Bacon. —Shoulders and Sides continue to attract
j some attention, but the supply on the market is
; very light, and hence the limited transactions,
j w Inch have been confined to 40 hhds, of the former
j at 5c.; and 60 hhds. of tiie latter at 7c.
Lard. —Small lots Western have changed hands
: at prices ranging from 74 to Bc. as in quality.
Salt. —There is none alloat or in first hands.
Store lots command prices ranging from 1 08 to $1
15 per sack.
Bagging and Hope. —The transactions in either
article have been limited during the week. Our
quotations will give a fair index of the stale of the
market.
Sugar. —The Sugar market has been quiet af
ter the heavy operations of the preceding week.
The stock is light, and there is none in first hands.
Coffee —There have been received since our
last 1048 bags Rio, the bulk of which is intended
for the interior. Small lots of Rio have been sold
dining the week, at prices ranging from 74 to 74c.
Molasses. —Small parcels Cuba command 18 to
' 20c.; New Orleans do. from 284 to3lc. per gallon.
I Freights. —There is a vessel loading for Liver
j pool at Id for cotton in square bags, and 45s per
ton for rice; also one for Havre at Ic. for square
bags cotton, and $24 perGUO lbs. for rice. Coast-
