< ’II Ell R\ . —The extraordinary success at tending
the use of this m diriiie In diseases of the lungs,
<»nd the many singular cures it has effected, hav
ing naturally attracted the attention of many phy
sicians, as well as the whole fraternity of quacks
various conjectures ami surmises have arisen re
speeling its composition; some physicians have
supposed it to contain iodine, other ignorant pre
tenders say it must contain mercury, and to some
such substance they each attribute its singular
efficacy. As such opinions are altogether erro
neous, and calculated to prejudice many persons
against it, vve PLEDGE OUR HONOR that it
contains nothing of this kind, or anything the
least injurious; on the contrary, it is composed of
the most simple substances, the principal of which
are the extracts of tar and wild cherry bark, and
the whole secret of its efficacy consists in the inode
by which they are prepared.

CHARLESTON, NOV. 28.— Cotton.— At the

quiet. Some grades, since our last, have depre

suffered to the extent of fc. 'The demand has run
principally on the fair and fully fair sorts. In the
lower grades very little has been done. Tlie fol

state of the market at the. close of business, viz:

The downward tendency noticed in the mark t

representing that market in an active slate, at a
farther advance of jd. per lb, 'The sales after the
receipt of the news am imited'to upwards of 1.000

news by the Acadia at Boston, came to hand.
This news had the effect to check all business, the
sales of the day being but about 10 ) hales. On
Monday havers and sellers still finding it difficult
to agree, the transactions vve.e only about 350
bales at a decline of an ic. per lb. On Tuesday
and Wednesday this decline became general, the
sales of the two days amounting to 3,500 bales,
and yesterday about 1.200 bales changed handset
same prices. The market closes without ranch

MAP OF GEORGIA.^
Til i K undersigned lias been, for lllofilli* past,
engaged, under the direction of His Excel
lency. Governor ( raw ford, in compiling a Map of
the Slate of Georgia, on a scale of six miles to the
inch. The undertaking is now nearly completed,
amt be flatters himself lie will receive the favor
able patronage of his fellow-citizens—sufficient, at
least, to have it published ami placed in a durable
form.
That a revised delineation is called sos, of our
extensive territory, independently of what exists
in the labors of Sturuks and Grkkxk, will not
be questioned. The accumulation and possession,
since their times-, of a vast body of land designated
then as u ilderness, or the temporary domain of the
Indian tribes, with natural objects well worthy "u
habitation and a name,*’ liav t been con verted into
organised comities, presenting a dense popnlaiion,
flourishing villages, and extensive public and pri
vate improvements.
'i’be .Map to lie published (so soon as a sufficient
number of subscribers will warrant,i is fixe feet
by four feet and eight inches; and is d< signed to
exhibit as well as perpetuate the present condition
of the whole topography of the Btafe. Ift addition
to the ordinary metes and bounds—courses of ri
vers, and ranges of mountains, Railroads, Canals,
County bites. Post Offices, Factories, in fact all
remarkable places of ihe past or present day, will
be shown. The attention of the compiler lias been
particularly directed to a failblni drawing of coun
ty lines and public roads, and to accomplish such
important ends, he has not only consulted the ori
ginal surveys and the acts of various Legislatures, -
but be deemed it the better plan to make rough
sketches of each county and submit the same to
the .1 list ices of ihe Inferior Court, Postmasters, arid
others equally < oiupetent and obliging, and to ask
for such additions and corrections as might be ne
cessary, ami further to designate anv and all ob
jects of natural curiosity that might exist. To
many, if not all of bis requests, kind, prompt ami
satisfactory replies were given .so that many glar
ing inaccuracies in the maps heretofore published
have been corrected; and the compiler takes this
occasion of returning bis acknowledgments to those
who favored his objects, us rendering a service not
merely to him-elf, but aiding most’'materially in
the thorough and correct dev elopement of the w hole
plan. To his brother Engineers of the different
Railroads, his thank* are tine for the use of maps
which enabled him not only to lav down the true
courses of those important works, but likewise to
make profiles exhibiting the elevation above the
sea, of every station front the Atlantic to the Ten
nessee river. The map will lie embellished wfth
views of the State House and the Executive Man
sion, and will h-- furnished to subscribers at their
residences at ten dollar* i*er r,, PV- Jk
