Extraordinary Mode of Reuuscita
tion. —A youth named Henry Rice having
fallen into the basin', City Road, London, a
quarter of an hour elapsed before he could be
got out. The boy was conveyed to the Wen
lock Arms, and two surgeons immediately
attended, who after an hour’s exertion were
unsuccessful in their attempts to restore the
youth to life. A drunken man in the tap
room, waking from his sleep, and hearing that
the medical men had failed in their attemp?,
si iggercd into the room and said he could
restore the boy, and applying his mouth to
that of the youth (at the same time including
the notrile,) and by strong suction as if draw- |
mg the breath from the patient, actually icn

tonishment of all preseni. This was the ninth
person whom this individual had restored to
life iu a similar manner. This extraordinary
case has excited much speculation, and has
led to the conjecture that an instrument might
be made to answer the means adopted in those
instances of resuscitation, which would be
highly beneficial in every point of view.

Saturday Morning, May jg.
Mississippi Election.
The New Orleans Bulletin of Monday last
gives the following as the slate of the pulls in
■I t counties:—
Prentiss, 1099'2
Word, 10473
Claiborne 9,557
Davis, 9,107
It will be seen that Prentiss is 1885 voles
ahead of Davis and 1435 ahead of Claiborne, and
that Word is 1450 abeau of Davis and 910
ahead ol Claiborne. There are twelve counties
yet to hear from, which arc generally Van liureu
in political complexion, but vote very weak.
The statement in the Picayune, published by us
yesterday morning, that Prentiss and W’urd were
elected by "0(10 majority, being a mere report by
steam boat passengers, which was probably taken
froui the difference between Prentiss and Davis,
was no i’oubt erroneous. Os Prentiss’ election
there can slid be no sort of doubt, amt we think
Word’s also safe, but the contest between bi m
end Claiborne will probably be pretty close. The
election of Prentiss alono would, however boa
great triumph.
Noble Munificence.
The Charleston Courier of yesterday says :
The United Stales Bank of Pennsylvania, through
its President, Mr Biddle, has transmitted to our
Mayor, the munificent and most unlocked for

There is no alteration in the character of the
commercial tiAoney market, and, though money
is to bo well employed— bills with good names
may be done at q 3 per cent. In the foreign ex-
we have had but very little business,
and the rates continue rather against the coun
try; although the shipments of manufactured
goods have rather increased. This anomaly
can only be accounted for by the fact, that lately
there have been more dealings in foreign securi
ties and shares. On Palis the rate rule at 25f

on llullerdam at 12 a 12 5-j; and on Ham
