COMPOUND SYIJ.ItI* OF FI Nit HOOT. P
Ia 4 IJE subscribers have succeeded in preparing a j
.B. compound Syrup of Pink Root, which will q
admit of as dofinko prescription as the p iwderod g
root. The dose of Pink Root, known as one of p
the best vermifuges is, 10 lo 30 grains, and double s j
that quantity in infusion in necessary to the same S(
effect. But this syrup contains a loncentraU'il der.oc- |,
lion, much stronger than the infusion, amounting e
to almost tile whole virtues of the unbalance. „
One leaspoonful of this syrup contains the con- ti
rentratod defection of 20 grains within » small c
fraction, wliich may bo considered at least, equal
to tlio minora dose of the substance, which is 10
grains—two teaspoonfuls 20 grains,and so on. A
slight laxative power is given by combining in tlio
viiMues of rhubarb and senna. | (
1 1 is nat certain that any uniform antidote to Ike-,
occasional nervine effects of Pink Root is known, |
but the best antidotal power hitherto ascertained, ! ..
serpontaria is combined ui due propor- (
lion. a
ft should be remembered that no vermifuge is ,
uniformly successful, even when worms are known i J
to bo present. The officianal infusion is 100 weak;
containing only the tea of seven and a half to fif
teen grains to the dose, which equals, (if I lie seloc.
lion of the root be well made) only throe and a ,
quarter to seven and a half grains of the substance. '
Fortius syrup, the best specimens have been i *
selected with great care, and the syrup on use has I '
been found to possess, in a very convenient form ‘
for administration to children, all the uniformity ot j '
power os a vermifuge with the root in subg’oncc, or ] '
the full powers ofit in infusion or decoction. The j 1
