MR. RICHARDS, from Baltimore, has the plea
sure to inform the citizens of Augusta, that
he has opened his rooms in the Masonic Hall, fur
the tuition of young Ladies in the various bran
ches of Drawing and Painting, in Oil and Wa
ter colors,including his original style of Flower
Painting and Pencil Drawing, India Finishing,
Fruit and Marine Painting, sketching from nature,
&c.
Mr. R. has a numbe.i of specimens from his own
pencil, which he will be happy to exhibit to all who
will favor him with a visit. He has devoted much
time to his collection of materials, studies, designs,
&c. His pupils will therefore have the advantage
of the best subjects fur the pencil, also the use
of many valuable elementary works and essays
upon the art.
His object willbe to convey a thorough and prac
tical knowledge of the study ; not a superficial ac
quaintance with the theory of the subject, which
will eventuate merely ine jo uoitnaaxa aipj few
pretty things. His design will be to make his pupils
Artists, which he hopes, with application on their
part, to accomplish. He will exert himself to please
the lovers of the arts who honor him w r ith their
patronage, and he doubts not, that many in this cl
ty, will eagerly devote a little time to the attain
ment of a knowledge of so enchanting an art
A term consists of two months instruction—the
fust course commencing on Thursday, 25th Inst.,
before which time it is desirable that pupils should
j enter their names.
