DRAWING & PAINTING ACADEMY.
MR. RICHARDS, from Baltimore, has the plea
sure to inform the citizens of Augusta, that
he has opened his rooms in the Masonic Hall, for
the tuition of young Ladies in the various bran
ches of Drawing and Painting, in Oil and Wa
ter colors,including ills original style of Flower
Painting and Pencil Drawing, India Finishing,
Fruit and Marine Painting, sketching from nature,
Ac.
Mr. R. has a number of specimens from his own
pencil, which he will be happy to exhibit to all who
will favor him witli a visit. He has devoted much
time to his collection of materials, studies, designs,
&c. His pupils will therefore have the advantage
of the best subjects for the pencil, also the use
of many valuable elementary works and essays
upon the art.
His object willbe to convey a thorough and prac
ti al knowledge of the study ; not a superficial ac
quaintance with the theory of the subject, which
will eventuate merely ine jo uoijnooxa aqj few j
pretty thing*. His design will be to make his pupils |
Artist s, which he hopes, with application on their i
part, to accomplish. He will exert himself to please 1
the lovers of the arts who honor him with their
patronage, and he doubts not, that many in this ci
ty, will eagerly devote a little time to the attain
ment of a knowledge of so enchanting an art
A term consists of two months instruction the
first course commencing on Thursday, 25th inst.,
before which time it is desirable that pupils should
enter their names.
Among his numerous references, Mr. R. would

Judge Holt, Rev. Mr. Hard, Rev. Mr. Ford.

The lot now on hand consists of able bodied men,
plough boys, two first rate blacksmiths.several like
ly and well qualified house servants of both sexes,
several professed cooks, washers and ironers, sev
eral women with children, small girls, suitable for
nurses, and several small boys without their moth
ers. Planters and traders are earnestly requested
to give the subscriber a call previous to making
purchases else-where, as he is enabled and will
sell as cheap or cheaper, than can be sold by any
other person in the trade.
