GEORGIA FEMALE COLLEGE.
fINHE Agent of tin Hoard of Trustees, by the di-
JL reetion of the Executive Committee, has ad
vertised the public ol the slate and plans and pur
poses of the Georgia Female College. At u recent
meeting of the Board, it was deemed advisable to re
publish the terms of Tuition, and to state distinctly
Hit reasons which have induced some, perhaps un
expected, changes.
Ike advertisement before referred to was not
"pacific in its details, but merely stated in general
terms, the probable expense connected with the
proposed instruction. It has doubtless happened,
consequently, that opinions have been formed and
estimates made which will not correspond with the
present publication. This discrepancy is to be re
gietted ; but when the lacts ol Hie case are) under
stood, cannot with a liberal people, operate to tlio
prejudice of the Institution.
It is the design of the Board to furnish, a complete
practical education; and the variety of things to be
taught, involves the necessity of employing a nimi
bei ol leathers. The 1 ollsge has been reared by
in liyiduul benefactions; lias no endowment to sup
ply it with funds, and is consequently dependent
upon tuition Pees, for the means of meeting its una
voidable expenditures. If the charges as herein
aller stated, exceed public expectation, we confi
dently anticipate that the Foard will be sustained
by all at least who adopt the indubitable truth, that
duration is to be estimated not by what it costs, but
by its intrinsic value.
In the pres nt arrangement there is no attempt
at speculation upon the pub ic. The prices ale I
regulated by Hie strictest economy, and are reduced
positively as low us the necessary expenditures
will warrant. In justification of our course let it be
remembered, a’so, that our charges are as cheap or I
cheaper than those of any other similar institution
ia the United States. With an enlargement of pan
and fewer laci.ities than age, reputation and location
have secured to other Seminaries, it cannot be ex- j
peeled that the expenses of this institution will be '
reduced so low as to accommodate the extreme de- I
sire of those who may make their estimate without
the necessary data on which to found a correct ca -
eiilatiun. In the proposed charges, as now pub
lished, the Trustees have been guided by the con
sideration, that it was more politic and wise to save
Hie Uodegc Iroin future embarrassment, by fixing
Hie fees lor Tuition higher now than necessity wifi
be.oaflcr require when an increased number of pu
pils sha 1 have augmented their income. It is
deemed Cy us to be the most ruinous po icy to gather
about an establishment like this, the eclut of econo
my, at Hie expr use of all that is valuable in plan,
and stable in liitnre promise—thus dooming it, if it
lives at a I, to feebleness and entanglement, and at
asl to bankruptcy and abandonment. Besides, it
was thought Inal the plan of coming down (whut
some may consider) high rates, would accord better
wifi public lieling, than hereafter to rise with our 1
neeessariy increasing wants. In the financial or- 1
niiigenii'iits ol the Board, those who patronise the 1
Institution hy sending their children or wards, in <
this the time ol their most pressing need, wil, have
the twofold gratification of contributing to establish
the Ho lege be) and contingency, while they receive I
what it is hoped will be more variable than sold and 1
stiver. It will be perceived, moreover", by the 1
statement below, that Hie tuition for the regular I i
College course has I ecu reduced s3.}. Thus as-I 1
finding a valuable education at a cheaper rate than j
was suggested iu the August advertisement, as the I
probable cost of inst action. The extra charges a;e 1
regulated 7) the current prices of ot'.'.crSemmaiies
and the actual necessities of the ease.
We commit Hie Georgia Female Col’ege, without
apprehension, to the enlightened patriotism of the
country. 11 we are to be doomed to disappointment,
we shall at lea-t have the conso ation ol having at
tempted a noble enterprise, with enlarged and libe
ral zeal; an 1 shall feel that Hie gunt of failure
abides not on us, but upon the peop e who refuse
(uo matter tor what) the ollcred advantages.
The exercises of this institution will commence
on the Ist .Monday of January, and conclude on the
3d \\ c hips lay iu July. The faculty will be com
posed of the following gentlemen;

{NOR SALK—A large and valuable Plantation,
in the Cth district of Early county, on Spring
creek, and in the neighborhood of lands belonging
to Major Robert Taylor, of Athens. It contains
about /V/o Thousand acres ; six hundred and fifty
of which are undernew, high and substantial fances.
About four hundred acres have been cultivated, and
on t’.ie remainder of that which is under fence, the
timber has been deadened and it would produce well
another year. The place has every necessary out
building, gin house, screw-pack, barn, corn houses,
stables, negro houses, &c. &.c., ail large and commo
dious. It is the wish of the subscriber to sell with
the plantation, corn fodder, stock of every descrip
tion, plantation utensils, &c., negroes excepted.
A great bargain is offered in the above property;
it being too distant from my residence, is the reason
for desiring to dispose of it. The location of the
settlement indicates health, and up to this time, the
negroes employed upon it have enjoyed tine hea'th.
Major Taylor knows the property, and will inform
any one respecting it—or information can be had by
application to me at 8 a vannah.
