EDITED BY JOHN CKI.L, M. D.

a A Periodical publication so decidedly and obvious
. ly beneficial to the profession, tor whose use it is in
-1 tended, as the Select Medical Library and Eclectic'
Journal of Medicine , needs little to be said in the way j
‘ of explanation and eulogy.
' Many of the works of the most distinguished au-
I thora in medical science are out ot print. Many En
glish works and continental ones translated into En 1
glisb, of the present day, possessing indisputable mcr
it and practical value, are not accessible toihagreai
majority of American medical readers, because they
are not republished on this side ot the Atlantic. Ot
the first class, it is sufficient to mention Sydenham,
linxhnm, Cleghorn, EordyCc, Jackson, &c. «fcc.;
d and of the latter, Armstrong's Lectures on the Prne
l lice of Physic, Andnll’s Clinical Reports, Edwards
. on the Influence of Physical Agents on Life, Christ!-
1 rorl on Poisons, Harrows, Neville, and others on In
sanity, &c., &c. It is proposed to supply tins double
r and obvious want by the publication of the Select
f Medical Library, through which, at a moderate cost,
and In a comparatively short period, n subscriber will
find himself in possession of many entire works on
the various branches of medicine.
In the Eclectic Journal, the histories of cases which
have a i efiniic bearing and application, summaries of!
opinions and practice, criticisms brim’ and pertinent, j
will find a place. The circumstances which exert an !
* influence over the health, both of indit.duals and
1 ul communities, shall receive a dao slinro of notice;
. it being as much Ihe duly of lho physician to foresee,
j and by timely warning to prevent, i.s, alter its inllic
, Hon, to cure disease, in the performance of this task
the more salient pours will be presented,—the actual
