of inlorming the citizens of Augusta and its
vicinity, that he will open an English School in tha
house recently occupied by Mr. Pike, fir the terra
of three months, to commence on Monday tho 6th
February, 1837. Having been engaged in tho busi
ness of teaching lor fourteen years, he flutters him
self he will be able to render ample satisfaction, to
parents, guardians and pupils, and therefore respect
fully solicits their patronage.

DANCING ACADEMY.—J.C Smith,respect
fully informs his pupils and the public, that at
tho expiration of his first course of lessons in dancing,
which will take place on the 15th of February, he
proposes to give a second course of instruction, con
sisting of 24 lessons in one month, each class attend
ing daily ; as he feels pursuaded, that by this moans
his pupils will make much greater ([progress, and bo
enableu to retain his instruction longer, hy practising
once every day. Those who are favorably disposed

ROWTO.N ! —This beautiful stallion and cele
brated Racer will make his second season in
America, under the direction of Mr. F. F. 11. Gerow,
at W. Hampton's Woodland Estate, five miles be
low Columbia, and ho let to Marcs at $75 the season,
$l2O to insure, and one dollar to the groom ; the
money to he paid in advance, or before the mares
are taken away.
T he season will commence on the first of Februa
ry and end tho first of luly. Extensive rye and grass
pastures provided lor mares, and separale lots for
such as may have young foals, and mares well fed,
a 50 cents per day. Every care will bo taken to
guard against accidents, but no responsibility should
they occur.
Rowton is a good chestnut withoutwhite, fifteen
and a half hands high, of great hone and muscle
lie is a horse of the finest limbs, and most exa't
proportions, and after the exportation of Amphion
was considered tho most beautiful stallion in Eng
land. His stock are thought very promising, and
are selling as high ns the gel of any stallion in the
kingdom. By a reference to the sporting periodi
cals of the day, Rowton's pedigree and performances
may be seen, as also the very high estimation in
which lie is held both in England and America.
N. B.—Black servants sent with mares, will he
boarded gratis; having no accommodations for
while persons on the spot, they must board in Co
lumbia or elsewhere

negro man named PRIMUS,about thirty-five or forty
years of age. He is about five ieel seven or eight
inches high, rather slender, very quick in his speech
and motions ; has lost moat of his front teeth, and
speaks much like an African or low country negro.—
When he left he had on a Kentucky jeans frock
coat, yellow homespun pantaloons, a pair of Russet
shoes, and a large bnmed wool hat. He may endeav
or to get to South Carolina, on the Savannah river,
below Hamburg. A reward ol Ten Dollars will be
given for arresting said negro and confining him in
jail, or Forty Dollars will be given if the said ne
gro is delivered to William Fort, in Macon.

A aLASsICAL AND ENGLISH SCIIuUL.-
Mr. Norcross would respectfully inform the
citizens of Augusta that ho has associated with him
in his school, Mr. Howey, a graduate of Jefferson
College, Pa., and for ihe last six years an instructor
of youth. In consequence of this arrangement an
additional number of pupils, of both sexes, can be
accommodated. The School will now consist ot
Uyo departments. The Classical and Mathematical
will he under the superintendence of Mr. IL, who
will teach the Latin and Greek languages—Algebra;
Geometry, Surveying, Mensuration, &c. The oili
er branches will he taught as heretofore.
The following certificates from Professors Stuart
and Twiss, of South Carolina College, relative to
Mr. ll.’s scholarship, are respectfully submitted:
I have examined Mr. Howey with much particu
larity, holh in Latin and Greek, and have been quite
pleased with the ensoand correctness of his transla
tions, especially in Latin, lie appears also lo be
familiar with Ihe rules and principles of Syntax. I
should think him well qualified for primary instruc
tion in the classic languages.

"’Hr the subscriber, in Orangeburg district, S.
C. on the 4th ol March last, a Negro Men by the
name of GLASCOIJ, and Ids wife K ATEV—Glas
cou is about 23 years of age, about fivo feet nine or
10 inches high, dark complexion, round face, mid
dling full eyes, a good set ol teeth, and no heard—he
is a stout and likely negro. Kale, his wife, is about
26 years of age, a good sized wench, a shade lighter
than Glascon, lias a scar on one check, tolerable full
• yes, good teeth and rather small month, and a little
inclined lo thick lips. Since they left me, they
were apprehended and confined in the jail of Jeffer
son comity, Georgia, and escaped from the said jail
on the Sth day ot December, 1836- 1 was informed
by tho lailor in smd county, that the wench Katcy
was far gone in pregnancy at the lime of her escape.
I will give the above reward of One Hundred Dol
lars for the delivery ol said Nogroes to me in Orange
burg District, South Carolina, or Fifty Dollars lor
their apprehension and confinement in any jail in
the Slate of Georgia, so that I can get them. My
residence is about 2 miles distant from Brunchville,
on the Rail Road, in Orangeburg district.
