Kon. Lawson Kell# -is oufc»ifor
.Solicitor of the City Court of
Douglas. Well, hurrah for Kel
ily! May the “early bird catch
the worm. ” „
At the beginning of the new
year we venture to repeat the old
familiar advice to our farmers:
.-‘Raise hog, hominy and hay,
.and let your cotton crop be sur
plus. ”
This is leap year, to be sure;
but the men will do the courting
.and tlu- women the jilting as they
any other time. God has
fixed it that way and His law is
.immutable.
Uncle Sam has two convicts
.with whom he knows not what to
( do, Green and Gaynor, and it cost
his government half a million to
yon viet them. Is it too high a
price to pay for the administra
tion of justice.
Public,sentiment seems violent
ly opposed to mere tines as a
punishment for violations of the
prohibition law. It is crying
loudly foissimple chaingangSen
tences, and the adininistndtat
of the law show a
heed the cry.

The trial of Pettibone at Boiffa
.City, Idaho, for complicity in the
murder of Gov Steunenberg has
ended in victory for the defen

trials have looked a little more
.than a farce from the beginning,
a thinly concealed persecution

Tiff SPOT CASE! MARKET
Beginning with the new year, I have decided to sell for
spot cash, and to do this I realize that while it will be hayd
to start with, in the end it will be better. In as much as I
have to pay cash for meats and cannot well do otherwise.
AS BEFORE
I will endeavor to the best of my ability to look after
your interest, and at this market you will always find the
same courteous treatment as heretofore been extended to my
patrons. The prices will be as lew as the narket possibly
affords, Hoping to receive at least a share of your patron
age.

The people of South Georgia
have crossed the threshold of
190$ hi fairly good shapean© are
gradually settling down to nor-,
mal conditions. Farmers have
begun preparations for the new
crop and are reasonably cheerful.
Our people have not felt the eff
ects of the panic as severely as
■is claimed for other sections of
the State and country.

headed by J. Skelton Williams,
who was ousted from the presi

by the Ryan faction, appear to
be again in the ascendency.
The demand i.s being made for
a law prohibiting a second term
for the president of the United
States. A term of four years is
sufficient for any incumbent, and
there should be no condition that
would call for his re-election. It
would cool off the political pot at
the white house and, perhaps,
stay the tendency of our govern
ment towards centralization and

“A rolling stone gathers no
moss” nor will'a man who is in
one place to-day and in another
place to-morrow ever own a home
if he has to earn one to own it. Our
boys, growing into young man
hood, should early decide what
line of industry they want to pur
sue in life and then stick to that
pursuit until they win out. They
will surely win if if they will per
severe, and not only own a home
buta competency during old age.
Every inch of The Sun's ad
vertising space should be taken
by Willacoochee merchants aad
t'-adesm ui. They can’t imtkjfiJ
better investment. A neat am
vertisement in a clean newspaper
will bring profit directly and in
directly. It is told that He.iy
W. Grady, in*his early newspa
per career in Rome Ga., solicited
an advertisement for his paper
from the proprietor of on‘►of
Rome’s largest retail stores. He
met wifcn a rebuff from the pro
prietor, who said tltatr -HQi>j|jy
reads advertisements. Gftidy
told the merchant that lie could
convince him that bis pos'tion
was wrong, that p eople did read
the advertise merits in Ills p&pm’.
All right said the merchant, if
you do I’ll become a regular 'ad
vertiser in your paper. The
next rate raing Grady’s paper con
tained a two-line advertisement,
set in very small type and placed
in a most obscure position, stat
ing that this merchant wanted
some-cats. The result was the
merchant was besieged with boys
and girls, white and black, who
wanted to sell him their cats,
from early morn till dewey live.
Grady’s argument was unmerci
ful but very convincing, and bis
paper never appeared thereafter
without carrying an attractive
advertisement of his victims bus
iness.
Theres no mistake, advertising
pays; it pays “a-comin, and a
goin’. ”
