OFFICIAL ORGAN OF CLINCH OdtUNTY
Homerville. Georgia, Friday .■ June, 9. 1911.
I Euaora Ark. May 31 1911
! It has been several months since
1 1 sent the News any locals, as I am
I now in a nev/ locality, will tell
ia little "about this section of Ar-kan.
sus- 1 have just been in conver
sat ion with a farmer living'a few
miles from here. He tolls me the
boll—weevil L now working on
his cotton. The plants are yet
small and no bolls on them, but
Mr. weevil is nipping them it in
the bud. It is generally believed
that t he cotton crops will be cut
one half or two-thirds by the
weevil. Oats amt wheat are planted
Uo some extent here. Wheat will
yield about 30 bushels per acre.
The use of fertilizer is not known
and genuine good, plowing is net
known either, I think if these far
mers had the Daniel O’Steen.
Warren Dickerson, or F. B* Sir
mans, kind of cultivation here
they would produce more stutf
than they could house.
A locust has appeared hero this
morth that has not been here in
seventeen years. Each and every
one of tho pest ~ has the letter
’’W” on its wings. The people
| here sav when it was here 17
years ago it had the letter ”P” on
its wing. They say it indicated^
pease and plenty, while during
j that time crops were cut one half
short. The superstitious elements
say the ”W” on the present
locust means War “and waste, lve
been telling these ignorant creturns
that the P moot pest and poverty'
and that the W ment wounderful
wealth.
1 attended Justice court here
this morning. There was only one
case tried, and that was a negro
for carrying a pistol He was fined
$75. or three months.
Well I’ll wtite you again next
week.
Bill.
