A SON OF SAM HOUSTON.
The .Escapade of a Man Who Disgraces a ,
Name Great in History.
Galveston Dispatch in Globc-Dcmocrat.
Temple Houston, son of the illustrious
Sam Houston and Senator-elect from the
Pan Handle district, while in a state of
intoxication attempted to take the life of
Policeman John Smith, who had placed
him on a street car with the intention of
seeing him home. After Smith had got Mr.
Houston aboard of the car, paid his fare and
instructed the driver where to let him oil,
he excused himself to Houston and left the
car. Houston followed him and insisted
that Smith should go into the grocery store
of C. Jordan and drink with him. Smith
demurred to this, when Houston seized him,
drew him up into the doorway and quick as
a flash whipped out his navy revolver and
presented it full in the officer’s face, saying:
“I will show you the kind of a man I am.”
Smith dodged, and as he did so seized
Houston’s wrist, giving it a powerful wrench,
which caused him to drop his revolver, when
a struggle ensued, resulting in Officer Smith
taking Houston to the police station, where
Houston became so violent and abusive that
the Chief of Police ordered him to jail to
sober up. On the way to the jail he re
sisted so violently that force had. to be used, !
and he was landed in that institution, all
covered with mud, hatless and al nost s loe
less, where he remained the greater part of i
the night until he sobered up, when he was .
released on bond to appear before the Re
corder in the morning to answer to the i
charge of assault with intent to commit t
murder, and another for carrying concealed <
deadly weapons.
Houston had arrived here but recently ,
with the intention of spending the Christ- (
mas holidays with his wife and friends in (
this city prior to his departure for Austin to ,
take his seat in the forthcoming Legislature.
A Sailor’s Description of His Bride.
A member of the Seamen’s Association,
lately married, is reported to have given to
his comrades the following description of
his new craft:
“My wife is just as handsome a craft as
ever left a milliner’s dry dock ; is clipper
built, and with a figure head not often seen
on a small craft. Her length of keel is five
feet six inches, displacement twenty-seven
cubic feet; of light draught, which adds to
her speed in the ball-room ; full in the
waist, spare, trim. At the time we spliced
she was newly rigged, fore and aft, with
standing rigging of iace and flowers; main
sail part silk, fore-stay-sail of Valenci
ennes, and stu’n’—sails trimmed with
orange blossoms. Her frame was of the
best steel, covered with silk, with whale
bone stanchions. The ringing s intended
for fair weather cruising. She has also a
set of storm-sails for rough weather. 1
have been told that in running down street
before the wind she answers the helm beau
tifully, and can turn around in her own
length if a handsome craft passes.”
Orange, Mass., May 23,1883.
' ‘ My wife was troubled with catarrh ot t te
bladder, intense pain in kidneys and loins,
urinating with great agony. Six bottles of
Hunt's (Kidney and Liver] Remedi com
pletely cured her." —H. S. Fuller, New Home

A prominent physician lately remarked to the
proprietor, that if were admissible to make public
the letters we receive, the ‘‘Mothers’ Friend” would
outsell anything on the market.
I most earnestly entreat every female expecting to
be confined, to use Mothers’ Relief. Coupled with
this entreaty 1 will add that during a long obstetri
