A monument to Virgil has just been

The cholera has scared away so many
visitors from Naples that it is said a number
of artists, sculptors and bronze workers are
on the brink of starvation, through a failure
to obtain orders. A committee of English
and American residents has been formed to
solicit orders for them.
There are at present sixteen locomotive
works in the United States, says the Boston
Advertiser, besides the shops owned by the
railroad companies. Five men can turn out
an engine in a year.
The French courts have just decided for
the second time that to send a message on
a post card does not constitute publication
unless it is expressly proved that as a mat
ter of fact the message was read by a third
person.
A fatal truth spoken in jest was that of
a farmer’s man in Delaware county, New
York, who, a few days ago, was drowned
while trying to ford the river near that
place. He was driving a team, and instead
of crossing at the usual place attempted to
ford the river one-eighth of a mile lower
down. Before starting out he said, in a
joking way: “I guess I will be drowned to
day.” The team swam ashore.
