“Algernon, I wish you’d throw away that

Algernon: “Shut them, then, my dear.”—
A Story of a Brute.
The clumsy passenger who, in entering a
street car, tramps upon the rows of cold toes
in the aisle, is better than a red-hot stove
to warm up the atmosphere.—Cincinnati
Commercial Gazette.
Larry Chugwistle, the popular and gen

trust he has gone to the land where baking
is unknown.—Arizona Personal.
Unprejudiced. Mrs. Newgold (in the
picture gallery): “This, Aunt Eunice, is a
real old master.” Aunt Eunice: “Well, I
shouldn’t care if it was; it’s just as good as
some of the new ones.” —Life.
First .Saratoga Hotelkeeper—“Why, hello
Bill! I thought they had you behind the
bars sure; SIOO,OOO bail for defrauding your
creditors, eh?” Second Saratoga hotel
keeper—“Oh, yes; they tried it on. It was
big bail, but I got it, all in one lump, too.”
“You don’t say so! Who went your bail?”
“My head waiter.”—Ex.
“Does the shining steel blade which I
hold in my hand cause excruciating pain ?”
inquired an Oil City barber. “What?” “I
asked if the razor hurt you ?” “Is it a

The Tramps’ Awful Experience.
Chicago Herald Train Talk.
“Talkin’ about awful experiences,” re
marked the tramp, “bet you never heard
tell on a worser time than me an’ Bent
Nosed Jack had last winter. Worsest thing
wot ever was. ’Twas the talk of the road
all summer, boss, an’ me an’ Jack was noted
charakters, we was.”
“What was this experience ?”
“Well, yer see, me an’ Jack was pikin’
around de railroad yards in Chicago one day
last winter, lookin’ for busted cracker boxes
or any other lay-out, when we got locked in
a car. There was no gettin’ out, an’ so we
made the best of it. The weather was awful
cold, an’ we was in that car when it got to
San Francisco. Three whole weeks on de
road.”
“Incredible. You would have starved or
frozen to death. If you’re telling the truth
you must have been mere skeletons when
you were liberated.”
“Starve ! Freeze ! Skeletons! Say, boss,
you hain’t very flip, is yer? You don i
ketch on. In that car was a hull lot o’ Ar
mour’s packed mea*s, a ton or two of crack
ers an’ cakes in boxes, a shipment of cigar ,
a dozen cases o’ champagny, nice lot o'
Mcßriar whisky, candy boxes, nuts, raisins,
some Milwaukee bottled, a hull lot o’ oy >
coats, an’ merchandise generally. But the
boss thing was some o’ these oil heatin’
stoves. We hadn’t any oil, but ther was a
barrel o’ alcohol there, and that did
all the same. We had a euchre
deck, too, an’ played seven-up for
champagny by de bottle and cigars by de
box. Skeleton, boss! The only skeleton
we had on that trip was de stuff in det car
when we got to’Frisco. We was a week
pickin’ out that car, and you can bet it took
fine work to git hid in it widout bein’ seen.
But it was de greatest day ever known in
de perfesh, an’ me an’ Bent-Nosed Jack
made our reps, on it, we did. Why can’t a
feller strike a snap like that every winter?”
