BUILDINGBOOM
I BRUNSWICK
Brnswick is at present enjoying
a building boom, not to say that a
dozen little shanties are be’ng erected
in the city, but a number of handsome
ami costly residt nee are going up in
ail sections of the city.
There is no Lot lev sign of prosper
ity in a comnuw K than to s~e new
buildings g 0:..., up, oid ones being
repaired, etc., ar.d this is certainly
the case 'u Bruttewick at. pres rut
Among tlic new houses no* in
course of eonstru gion is a handsome
residence t.t tiie corner of Uni i: and
Monk streets, being erected by Mrs.
'il. C. Rowe. This residence is al
ready well under way and will be com
pleted within a short while.
Another very pretty home is being
erected on Union street , between
Darthmouth and AJbermarle by Mr.
.1. E. du Bignon. This heme will alst
be a handsome one and will soon add
to that already pretty residence por
tion of the city.
Besides these, several plans are now
being prepared lor several other beau
tiful homes and work will begin on
some of them within a short while.
There are also a number of houses
Just completed and arc now occupied
lv the owners, among them bring
that of Messrs. \V. S. Taylor, D. W.
Hrauss, 1. K. Winter, U. U, Dunwody
and a number of others.
Work is progressing rapidly on
Brunswick's n >w and handsome pub
lie building, and it. will, within a year,
add greatly to the appearance of that
vicinity of the city.
Many places arn being repaired,
and a great many small buildings are
going up in ail sections of the city
and it may truth, ully be said that
Brunswick is now on a building boom

SOME GOOD PLAYS COMING..
TO THE GRAND SHORTLY
Lewis Morrison Coming.
In Lewis Morrison's elaborate pre
sentation of his new "Faust” much dif
ficulty is experienced on one-night
stands in placing the scenery, which
is of an unusually elaborate and in
tricate kind. It is therefore custom
ary tor the advance agent to question
the local managers as to the exact
measurement of the stage, height,
depth and width. He then notifies the
stage carpenter back with the com
pany, who provides accordingly. .An
other necessary feature is a number
of trap doors troni which flames leap
in ttie Brocken scene and Katun's imps
disappear into the flames of the lower
inferno at his command. in one

The announcement, that Mr. Mac
can and Miss Tyler with their really
superb company- will present Shakes
peare’s wonderful historical drama,
"King .John,’’ at, tile Grand opera
house on Tuesday, the 20t.1i inst. is
made by Mr. Edward Taylor, repre
senting tin' much comm: mlod organ
ization, and who visited the News last
evening. 'Our production of 'King
John,' " said Air. Taylor, "is noted for
its lavish but correct magnificence.
Nothing like it has ever been attempt
c l by a company traveling, and the
southern press and public applaud it
in terms significant of praise and eu
logy The discriminating and can-
K/.le critic of the Shreveport Times,
which paper of the 22nd inst. I have
very recently received, writes:
“In the matter of scenic display
and costuming "King John" was sim
ply peerless. Tito stage effects wore
almost dazzling in their brilliancy an
the harmony and richness of the cos
tames appealed strongly to the criti
cal eye. Each sci ;io seemed more
exquisite in coloring and richness
titan the last, and the production may
truthfully lie compared in point ot
generic splendor to the gradual un
folding of an exquisite panoramo.
“REAPING THE HARVEST.”
A treat in stage liteTaturo: a trip
on the ocean of thought, a hand
shake with memories dear. In short,
a plenty of laughter, a .sufficiency of
sentiment and pathos is what is
promised in the coming of that elab
orate production "Reaping the Har
vest.”
A play of modern American life
dealing with the vissisitudes and gay
itios Of youth and the consequence
awaiting he who sows unwisely.
"Reaping the Harvest” is the newest
and best agent of human nature
known to the stage. Fact nor fiction
never gave birth to a sweeter story
of love ar.d devotion, sorrow and
pain and laughter and tears than that
embodied in the four acts of this
new creation. The latest and bent
devices in the way of scenic effects
are employed in this production. The
special scenery carried is the perfec
tion of art. prominent among which
is the great scenic revelation. Sun
set. from Kroriks Tavern.
