PUBLISHERS NOTICE.
The News Publishing Company de
sires it to be distinctly understood that
all legal advertisements must be paid
for in advance. We cannot afford to
devote our space to such advertise
ments and wait on the courts for the
money.
The News, desires the subscribers
who are behind in their subscriptions
to come up and pay at once as their
papers will-be discontinued unless a
settlement is made. It is unfair and
unjust to make The News send you
a paper and then when the collector
calls refuse to pay for it.

Journalist and a thoroughly learned
man. hut he lias a poor idea of the

Congressman Maddox, of Georgia,
seems to have let his safety valve
get away from him in the house on
Saturday last. His theme was engag

the scene was auspicious er not.

Albany is all torn up over the ques

in court on a suit brought by the
citizens to prevent the Issuance of

Taere is a movement on foot among
some of the business men. a3 will he

of today's istsue of The News, to
have the next municipal ticket nom
inated by a large mass meeting or

the plan will carry remains to he

THE BEGINNING.
Mr. Richardson, of Tennessee, tho
democratic leader of the house, made
a speech before that body the other
day which was a severe arraignment
of the republican party for its fail
ure to redeem the pledges it made to
the people. Although in the nature of
a political speech, it was a timely
deliverance. Congress is now on the
eve of adjournment after the most
extravagant session in the history of
the country, and without having af
forded any relief to the people from
the burdens which have borne so
heavily upon thorn. The trusts, the
tariff and the attendant evils which
have been laid upon tne people by the
republican party have not been dealt
with according to the promises made
in the republican platform. Instead
the republican majority in congress
has gone on from day to day not only
not making any effortt to remedy or
abate these evils, but blocking the
efforts that have been juit fortfl by
the democratic minority, which has
been powerless against the over
whelming odds in both houses as wei!
as against the opposition in tthe
White Houae.
Mr. Richardson r<->#-tl - these facts
and they will be scattered broadcast
over the country. The people will be J
fully informed as to the conduct of i
the republican majority which had the !
power to give them relief from bur
densome taxation and trust prices, j
ami yet failed to do so after having
pledged itself to do it.
It is true that proceed iQgH have
been instituted in some of the courts
to enjoin the trusls from robbing the
people, but If any good has come of
these proceedings no one baa- felt It.
while no effort whatever hip; been
made to relieve the weight of tariff
taxation.
Mr. Richardson s speech is only tho
beginning. Such speeches will be
blade throughout the country during
the aproaehltig campaign. Down
with the trusts and tariff reform will
bo the democratic slogan, and a united
democracy? ought to win a great vie
tory In tho coming elections.
* Old man Morgan seems to favor anv

Two more days, and the average
Englishman will be able to breathe
again.
Judge Rmory Speer has gone hack
at Congressman Bartlett in his usually
forcible manner. The indications are
that Mr. Bartlett was a little too.liasty
in hla denunciation of every thing in
sight in connection with the United
States court in Georgia.
It is to lie hope,) that the city coun.
til will accept the offer of Mr 11. S’.
McCrary for that old market build
mg on Newcastle street. It is an eye
sore and wo are sure that the
public will tie glad when it is removed
from the general view.
Only one voter in si‘ven in Oonnoe

from Connecticut will probably go a

Women and Jewels.
Jewels, candy, uowers, man—that
is the order of a woman's preferences.
Jewels form a magnet of mighty pow
er to the average woman. Even that
greatest of all jewels, health, la often
ruined iu the strenuous efforts to make
or save the money to purchase them.
If a woman wu: risk her health to
get a coveted gem, let her fortify
herself against the insiduous conse

kffections by tke regular use of Dr.
Boschee'B German Syrup. It will
promptly arrest consumption in its
early stages and heal the affected
lungs and bronchial tubes and drive
the dread disease from the system.
It is not a cure-all, but It is a certain

The indications are, that we are on the verge of one of the biggest bull
markets the country has ever known. It is rumored that John W. Gates is
backed by a pool of $250,000,000, com-posed of J. Pierpont Morgan, Marshall

We would advise the immediate purchase of all good dividend paying stocks,
