DOINGS IN THE CITY COuRT, j
Quite a Number of Cases Disposed of
Yesterday.
The city court was in session again
yesterday, and quite a number of in
teresting cases were disposed of. Fob'
lowing is a record of the day’s work:
State vs. Jim Jonnson and Henry
Josepn, attempt to break open rail
road ear; verdict og guilty. Sen
tence, ten months on tue chaingang
or pay a fine of *25 and costs.
state vs. Henry Powell, Jim Burns,
David Jones, gaming; first demand.
State vs. Chas. Wilson, carrying
concealed weapons; verdict of guilty,
with recommendation of mercy to
court. Sentence, six moult.- on the
chaingang or a fine of SSO and costs.
State vs. Alex Davis, cheating and
swindling; verdict of guilty. Sen
tenced to serve ten month* on tae
chaingang or pay a one of $75 ami
costs.
State vs. Jake Atkinson and John
Hall, catching tarraplns out of sea
son. Verdict of not guilty.
Htal.i- vs. Will Diiiaru, lure ny from
the person, On trial.
The last case of the day was the
one against Jake Atkinson and John
Hall charged with violating me fish
laws in catching tarrapins below the
legal size.
In this case it scene 1 that the al
torneys tor the defense were bent on
impeacning the testimony of
Denaro, the newly elected th warden
of the county, and to this ena a num
ber of citizens were introduced for th<
purpose of swearing that the word of
Denura would no he believed on oath.
The state introduced a number of
witnesses who took the contra tact
and accordingly it; was a leg off on
that. However, it was apparent that
tne jury tor some time were confused
as to whether Hall or AuUn-.-on wen
being tried for violating the fish laws,
or whether Denaro was unuvr accusa
tion for being a had character.
The jury finauy retired, and aft ;
a short consideration of tue case, re
turned a verdict of not guiity.
