THE DREAM IS OVER.
The love affair of Crown Prince
Frederick Wilhelm, of Germany, which
has caused a stir in four nations, is
now about to subside.
At least the poor crown prince is
suffering from jaundice, is on a sick
leave, and has declined all social, rep
resentative and military engagements
off. Nervousness and anger over his
love affair have brought on the disa
greeable, if not dangerous disease. His
fattier, the emperor of Germany, must
at least cease hts scold ng, and lot the
affair do cones blow over
The romance of the crown prince
with the lovely American girl. Miss
Glades Deacon, took place at Blenheim
palace, the home of the Duchess of
Marlborough. The Paris newspapers
declare that the crown prince of Ger
many fell in love wiln the American
girl ift tirst sight and that he paid her
the most devoted court, dancing with
her constantly and being, w.tn her ev
ery moment possible, lie delayed his
visit much longer than ..e intended,
and departed only when he was sum
marily ordered home by Ins father.
The Frenca diplomat says that lie
fore he left Blenheim the royal youth
declared his lete for Miss Deacon
and asked her to plight troth to him.
,He gave her a diamond ring that had
been given to him by his grandmother,
yuoen Victoria, pledging himself that
he would make her his wife in the
face of the whole universe.
He wrote to her constantly after his
departure and. managed to see her on
Vue continent. His unexplained ab
sence, his sudden anxiety to visit cer
tain places tnat never before interest
ed him, his general demeanor and the
absnco of the ring aroused the suspi
cions of the kaiser, wuo questioned
him.
The diplomat-author In Le Matin
Hays the youtn of twenty told the em
peror the plain truth, having inherited
much of the fatuer’s courage and force
of character. The kaiser tried to rea
son with his son, bnt could not change
him. Then ho commanded, and the
son refused to obey, lie clung to his
determination to marry the young
American beauty, m
Vvneii the duties entailed by his po
sition and ran,( were emphasized ho
declared that he was wiling to sacri
fice me wealth, rank and the throne it
self to wed the woman he loved
The latest cablegrams state that
i rlnce Metternich, (lie German ambas
sador In London was instructed to get
back the crown prince's tnuisereet
lovo token, acting privately and unof
ficially. So the prince approached the
duke ot Marlborough, as it was at the
duke’s country seal, Blenheim, that
tne crown prince met Miss Deacon.
She instantly surrendered the ring at
the duke's request.
Now that Emperor William has both
the ring and the boy hack a his pal
ace. be will doubtless show his son the
hopelessness of his love, and that he
must forget tin; beaut u ill American
girl.

It was predicted that the most se

introduction of the anaesthetic art. It
was feared that the art would be used
by the robber, by the murderer, by

short, it would ire a means of putting
tlie most dangerous and ready weapon
of evil ever dreamed of into the handa

It was argued that the practice, how
