Autumn.
A glory fills the autumn hill'3
With golden touch and crimson glow
A purple haze spreads o’er the days,
And wood-birds linger, loath to go.
A languid breeze among the trees
Now whispers of the dead;
To deck the bier of Summer, here
The ghost-flower bows its head.
Rich goldenrods, with sunny nods,
Along the roadside ways,
Blue asters gleams, by meadow
streams.
Hint now of halcyon itays.
Brave gentians vie with autumn sky
In transcendental blue.
While woods take on the tints of dawn
And splendid sunset hue.
A glory (ills the autumn hills
With golden touch and crimson glow
A mystic spell we ne'er can tell
Broods o’er the heart’s deep over
flow, —Jtoscoe Brumbaugh.
